Reference 8gb rx480 vs Nitro 4gb rx480

Tweakforce_LG

Im on a tight budget so i can either get a sapphire Nitro+  4GB rx480 or a Reference cooler 8gb rx480. The Nitro+ 8gb model is just out my budget. I always associate reference amd coolers with no OC capability. Witch would be a better buy, better cooler but less vram, or more vram and questionable cooler. Im at 1080p and will be keeping the card for 3-5years as i tend to game on it for a few years then scale back when its not sufficient. (im in the scaled back stage with my 5670 xD)

if your case has enough airflow the blower style cooler coupled with the Polaris architecture wont be that bad. 83C with the stock cooler is what you can expect.

3-5 Years I definitely suggest the 8gb, it will be warmer and has a cheaper PCB but the extra Ram is worth it. In the future you can get an ARCTIC cooler or similar to reduce temps and noise.

What about Reference RX480 8GB with NZXT S340 case? Will the heating issue still exist?

I heard the fan on the rx480 is not that loud compared to previous reference cards so maby just make a fan curve for it.

Custom RX 470 8gb > Custom RX 480 4gb.

The RX 480 4gb has slower memory, and so less Memory bandwidth. The 470 8gb is the overall better Product and more Future proof.

I have a reference Sapphire 470, not that loud really. But it gets toasty.

Is it worth getting a 480 for 1080p?

Yes, this thing will crush 1080p games. Would recommend the 4GB of you plan on only 1080p gaming.

Would it be considered a waist to get the 8GB for 1080p or will it still have advantages for the future?

If you can afford it go for it, it better to have more VRAM than you need than to have the possibility to run out. But I the 4GB version will hold up nicely, most games don't use much VRAM surprisingly.
