'Gaming' gear

I am not talking about actual gaming, but I want to address a certain context of the word some people have taken to it.

Somebody asks for a 'gaming' desk. What are you expecting? A desk with pacman carved into it by an artist?

A certain part is better because it is from ROG? What? Do they enhance it with magic gaming fairy dust?

'Gaming mouses and keyboards' yes, I am sure you need that, you probably will kick more ass if your equipment is from a 'gaming' brand.

EVERYTHING IS LABELED GAMING.

EVEN THOSE ALIENWARE COMPUTERS.

DO YOU MASTURBATE ON THOSE ALIEN LOGO'S OR SOMETHING THEN CONTINUE TO GAME?!

That is all.

What? Some peripherals and monitors are gaming optimized for fast response time and other things. Yes the "gaming" name is offer used but if you dig through the crap there is actually a point to it.

Fast response times in monitors has been around for a while and you know what it's called? Fast response time.

No need to label it as gaming, sure it might sell it to the uneducated people some more, but it irks me so much. A buttload of items has been labeled gaming.

Oh and faster response times in peripherals is there, but it is close to non existent. They could possibly be more ergonomic for gaming but faster response times, barely.

a gaming desk could exist, one that gives privileges to a gamer, like a shit bucket([/sarcasm]), or a mini fridge built in so you don't have to go to the kitchen to get some more drinks, but I guess anybody would benefit from that

I stay away from anything with the word "Gaming" in its name. Gaming cases? Red LED fans behind a nonexistant front panel. Gaming headset? The EQ is so unbalanced you could ski down the slope it makes. Gaming mice/keyboard? LED backlighting.

I can understand certain peripherals being labeled with that, obviously a deathadder is better optimised for 'gaymen' than a duddy $20 logitech wireless thing that 40 year old women bum around with to read their facebook or buy shoes or whatever it is 40y/o females do.

That being said, I personally think it sells better to idiots, mostly those who are buying 'gaming laptops' for the latest games, it just isn't going to work...

As for the ROG thing, their soundcards, motherboards and gpus are fine, though the rest of their lineup is pretty gimmicky.

"Gaming" women... Wish I had one of those.

I have the MSI "gaming" gd65 motherboard with 2x "gaming" nvidia 780's. They are definitely for gaming on.

I believe adding "gaming grade" to something can be legitimate. Say a razer naga or something, 12 buttons on the side is obviously geared towards gamer especially MMO players. I don't mind saying a monitor with faster response time is geared towards gamers because they made it with a lower response time to appeal TO gamers. So I think the while the term "gaming gear" is overused it's because we just have a lot of manufacturers making products genuinely tuned towards a gaming demographic. You just see it everywhere because there are A LOT of people making gear now.

My Rig "Corsair air 540, MSI Z87-G45, i5 4670k, EVGA ACX 780, Gskill sniper 2x8gb 1866 memory, Corsair CX500m modular 80+ bronze, corsiar h100i, toshiba 1.5tb HDD." / Peripherals "Acer H226HQLbid Black 21.5" (Main monitor), Acer S200HLAbd Black 20" (auxiliary), Razer blackwidow ultimate 2013, razer naga 2013, razer goliathus 444x355 speed edition, Sennheiser HD8 DJs"

First off, one things that makes stuff "gaming"... make it custom. Mice and keyboards that have extra keys for extra customization is "gaming" to me. Monitors with fast response times, 120+ HZ is gaming to me since they allow you to have the best experience framerate wise. If you want a "gaming" desk, go to home depot and build your own desk, make it your own.

I can understand the marketing edge yes, but it is simply way too overused to the point of it not being even funny anymore.

I am merely saying that 2 pro gamers have equal chance against each other even if one has more macro buttons, which is comfortable, but not necessary.

'Gaming' gear is also often used to describe things like LED's like somebody said here, which just.... Is nonsensical.

I think this is a good demonstration of how overused the word "gaming" is. Personally I always do more research on things called gaming because I think the manufacturer is trying to hide some bad facts about the product under that huge "gaming woho! Made for serious gaming lol" label.

My biggest issue is with things labelled 'gaming motherboards'. Motherboards are motherboards - the only differences between them are PCIe slot layouts, audio, heatsinks and IO - you can't really have a gaming board.

I've got a gaming board, I play chess and checkers on my gaming board.
