do you care about backplates and look?

what color scheme it has...only you can check review but with the prices you have available DEFENETLY a GTX 1060.

This one looks good price/perf wise

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kfa2-geforce-gtx-1060-oc-6144mb-gddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-095-kf.html

So he's got either a GTX 1060 or R9 390X as he said he can get one for 240 pounds.

I'd personally get the 390X for its overall power, 8GB of VRAM and the fact that I've got a 290X and its been great so far, nothing to complain about.

But if he values low temps and low power draw, the GTX 1060 is also great. The one I linked for 240 pounds is good price/performance wise, better than Founders.

I was going to go founders for the black and green colour scheme (£275)

Is this monitor any good? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-vx24ah-24-2560x1440-ips-widescreen-professional-gaming-led-zero-frame-monitor-black-mo-079-as.html

...IMHO...24'' is too small for 1440p resolution...you'll have to use windows scaller to scale up the text and this is a pain and won't work well with many softwares you might use in the future...for 1440p you want 27'' or bigger IMHO...24'' or lower for 1080p.

EDIT: for the GPU the one @Morgan MLGman linked look pretty sweet...

I like ASUS but their lower end stuff sucks. Acer is always a better deal, but their UI isn't as good as ASUS and with Acer expect some quality time with that poor UI to get the settings dialed it.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

great so amd has video encoder too...good to know...not a reason to be an arse...you learn things everyday i'm sure you don't know everything either...i assumed they didn't had one on there since they don't have any good software to make use of it and shadowplay has been out for years.

I can't go easy on you. You have been pretty ignorant to many things. Not knowing AMD has a hardware encoder when its been out for 5 years. That says something.

And I do hope that after today, this'll get better.

well...what can i say...AMD ignored it as well then since they don't have a fucking software to make good use of it for the past 4 years+?!

I will try to look for a 27 inch monitor that is good and will link it.

The reason i wanted the founders was for aesthetics to go with the build but i could revamp the build and see what prices it gives with another card

My Setup :P

Spoiler

Skylake: I7-6700|MSI B150 GAMING M3|16GB GSKILL RIPJAWS V|R9 280X (WILL BE 1070)|CRUCIAL MX300 + WD BLACK 1TB

Founders is objectively worse and more expensive. Is hotter, louder, overclocks worse, doesn't have a backplate and the GEFORCE logo does not light up. All of that at a premium price.

27 is the sweet spot in my opinion. Watch out for the base though at that size. Trendy and stylish usually means you monitor will be a belly dancer. Not cool. Those big ugly round bases have a purpose.

Is an i7 really required? I would love to save money on an i7, get an i5 and oc it and get a better gpu brand

i think it turns out it does light up though...some people pointed out in the thread the other day that they've seen tear down of the card and the led is there and pluged in and some reviewers pointed out the fact that their card light up but some others said it doesnt...but in the i think it does you probably just have to turn it on in geforce experience software or something.

AMD already had raptr to support it. Around the same time as Shadowplay. You've just been ignorant about it. That is all.

No. You do benefit from an i7, but it is not "required". Also, a Xeon E3-1231v3 + a H97/B85/H81 motherboard is usually cheaper than an unlocked i5, CPU cooler for OC'ing and a Z97/Z170 board (depending on the i5)

what would you recommend for cheaper than an i7?

Depends, at the performance of what a 1070 offers you're at the limit of what the i5 can offer, And at 1440p you want that 1070. A 1080 is bottlenecked by a i5. So buying a i5 limits your ability to upgrade your graphics card in the future, or you have to spend more after buying a i5 to buy a i7.

As I said, how much is the Xeon E3-1231v3 + a cheap, micro ATX H97/B85/H81 motherboard at your location? It might be cheaper than an i5, and the Xeon is basically an i7-4770 but without integrated GPU that's not needed.

"basically" is the right choice of words. I've heard good and bad things about them, while the only bad thing about a i7 is the price.

Buying a 4790k means you can buy any graphics card available worry free. Buy that insurance comes at a premium. But 1440 is a premium. Not trying to be cold, just don't want you wasting money chasing 1440 without being prepared to the realities of the chase.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

The lack of the ability to overclock limits it. Not all games, but killers like Fallout 4 still bring it to it's knees. While a overclocked i7 munches through Fallout 4 without breaking a sweat.

£232 for the xeon and around £80-90 for a board
