Best OS X version for iMac Mid-2007

I'm doing a clean install of 10.11 now. Will get a 10.6 dvd later.

10.8 or 10.9, though I'm not sure how much longer 10.8 has left.

 

10.8 was the last version I used extensively and I loved it. 10.9 looked like it was aesthetically the last good version of OS X.

10.9 is a lot slower than 10.6, but still has support. I might just put MSX on it and call it a day.

I can say that from personal experience, my late 2007 MBP (C2D and 4gb RAM) ran fine on Mavericks, but as soon as I upgraded to Yosemite it became noticeably slower.
