If you already have the 980 get another, if you don't get the 480.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I'd opt for the RX 480, it's VR ready.

the 980's will definitely give you much better fps. and 4GB of VRAM should be fine in most games. You may need to occasionally turn down a setting or two on some of them in order to stay within the 4GB buffer on your 980's, but that compromise should easily make up for itself in those games.

It doesn't make much sense to get a 480 unless you REALLY need to get that VRAM. it has less horsepower than a 980 does. You're going to take an FPS hit in order to get that extra VRAM

It is already slightly faster than the RX 480 on average in most games, if you can get a good deal on one just SLI

GTX 980 is a bit more powerful than RX480, that would be a slight downgrade. I also wouldn't SLI 980's at this point, there are faster single cards on both sides.

Maybe look into selling your 980 and picking up a 1070 if you can find one for a decent price. Or you can wait some time for AMD to release Vega cards.

The since you already have a 980 do the SLI, should give you better performance than a single RX 480

Well two 980s would perform a lot better than a 480, so what I would do personally is sell the 980 and buy a 1070 which will perform slightly worse than two 980, but will use much less power, has newer features, and is a single card.

It also performs about the same as two 480s, while only being about 1.5x the price.

After looking AIB 980s are going for ~$250 you can sell your current one for that basically making the 1070 $180, if it costs you close to $180 for another 980 you should just get a 1070.
