FreeNAS on ESXi host: Storage?

I'm going to be configuring my newly bought server shortly and I've got one big question: Should I make datastores in ESXi and assign them to freeNAS to use or could I just pass through all the drives?

I have heard that FreeNAS (with ZFS) works best with direct access to the hardware. So my suggestion would be to pass them all through.

Unless your using a HBA with pcie passthrough don't pass them through. ZFS is designed to have direct acess to the storage.
