What?

It was a funny, you know. Jokes. As in is to laugh.

Price aside the FE 1080 is a great card. If I had the disposable I'd get one. The benchmarks have show that the AIB cards only perform better when the lottery is on their side. Just as expensive as ****, hence the jokes.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

And it gives the excuse to overhaul with a custom watercooling setup :D

I'm probably going to wait for Vega. Just haven't had a problem getting the fps I need with the 980ti. It does take more work since I got the predator though. And I got rid of the GFE because it was causing problems. But I get over 70fps in Primal with everything maxed but the AA set to FXAA at 1440. Not even overclocked. Going to see what that does tonight probably.

But I completely agree. I have more respect for someone who saved up for a 280 and built their rig themselves with some case mods, than someone who just buys a boutique with all the latest.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Yeah I get 2050 but wasn't anywhere near those temps? Can that be lottery based?

I nearly went with a 980Ti after the price cuts but the 1080 edged it in teh benchamrks and gave me a slight piece of mind with dx12 (brute force).

Yeah I completely agree. My foray started with a fx 6300 and r9 280 and I worked my ass off and sold shrewdly at the right time. Made money  back on most of my components.

But I caught the PC upgrade bug. I quit smoking too so money saved went into my new passion!

Yeah that's what I thought. I have no idea. All the FE cards are the same pcb and blower fan just the box is different depending on supplier.

Could it be your case temps? Airflow? Downclock the mem another 100 to where mine is at?

Totally effected by the lottery. Better your luck the less voltage you need, and the lower your voltage the lower your temps. My 4790k never goes over 60c while at 4.6GHz using a H105, no matter the test.  Because it's at the stock voltage. Never giving it up lol

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Oh ok. Guess I've been lucky then. Although I found +500 on the mem gave me instability. So maybe you have better oc potential at the cost of heat where I have less oc potentially but better thermals?

Try using my fan curve and downclocking the mem from +500 to +400 like mine. I posted it above.

Nice overclock, man. I've only heard the 2.1GHz as being a magical number on Pascal, but it's great to see someone get on a stock cooler nonetheless.

I almost caved and got the FE myself, but I couldn't justify the additional $100 since I just bought a monitor to go with my soon to be EVGA GTX 1080 SC.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Thanks :) Yeah I'm very happy.

Nice what monitor did you go for? The 1080 loves 144 1440!

The Evga SC is a ref pcb but with Evga's ACX 3.0 cooler so you should be able to hit some tasty clocks but it depends on the ol' lotto...

i can try it when i get back to my pc and i haven't even touched voltage altho not sure if that will help a whole lot as i tested fan at 90% before after 70c still got close to 90c i have even tried fan at 100% after 60c still climbed to 80c

QNIX QX2710, 1440p monitor overclocked to 100Hz. Decent monitor for being dirt cheap, lol.

Yea, originally I was going to go with the ordinary ACX 3.0 card, but because of delays, EVGA bumped me up to the SC for free. I was going to manually overclock anyway, but yea, I'll take the free upgrade. Helps resale value for if the 1080 Ti is ever released.

Yeah I don't think you'll need voltage increase as you have hit the 2.1ghz. Watercooling could let you know how much higher you could go with that. I think it might be your stepped fan curve as opposed to a straight incline.

Ah beautiful! Your first 1440 monitor? The difference is really noticeable. Bye bye pixels.

Sure that is the only thing I'm worried about - resale on the FE. But by the time the Ti comes out I should have saved enough to buy outright.

Yea, first 1440. I've seen them before but never really got to play with them. The available workspace and general aesthetics of games is just so much improved, I love it.

Resale on FE should probably remain fine. In my experience, second-hand buyers aren't always smart about their purchases.
