Bought one. No regrets

I was going to wait for the RX 480 but I gave in to the temptation.

This thing is a beast. No regrets buying the FE either as I managed to get a stable 2.1ghz oc with custom fan curve and upped power limit. No voltage increase.

I was worried about missing out on Freesync but at 144hz refresh and vsync off I have had no issues with tearing so far.

I've been with AMD for ages but they lost a customer by not releasing high end this cycle. Fury X is nowhere near and the RX480, as much as I wanted it to, will not touch this card. I'll lay money on it.

See you later AMD, maybe with Vega.

Makes sense to couple a 144Hz 1440p monitor with a 1080FE

Leave the side panel off if you want to see any turbo boost though :P

Actually, people who create custom curves have found the FE to boost up very well once the fan curve has been tweaked.

Except they are releasing high end. They just pushed it back more

But of course, time is money and being the first to the product stack means higher sales

The way I see it, enthusiast is about the time you dedicate to making your computer perform the best, not about how much money you have.

Or rather, how big a fraction of your money you're willing to give out.

By that book you're probably still an enthusiast (people who walk in a store and ask to get the best performing graphics card and pick it up don't count though), even though the 980 got outclassed pretty hard by the double node shrink

Yeah the custom fan curve is working like a charm. 2.1ghz stable (no throttling) after 3 hours stress in Valley.

I understand that I could have waited but I already sold my 390's weeks ago and my igpu seriously wasn't cutting it.

I was going to wait for the RX480 and thought lower frames and freesync would have been ok but in all honesty I would make the same decision again and again after actually seeing the performance of this 1080. I'm shellshocked.

I looked at some reviews on AIB cards and the extra power connectors and blower style fans didn't actually yield much more oc headroom.

That's what made my decision to buy a FE. With a custom fan curve you can still hit 2ghz+ stable and avoid throttling. Also availability and prices were better for the FE cards.

I'll dig out the link to the reviews I mentioned...

Or you could have bought 2 480s for just below 1080 performance, since you had 2 390s I'm assuming you don't mind the perils of crossfire

And for lower frames freesync would do the rest

Oh no I hated CFX.

It was the worst experience ever. The inconsistency. The Microstutter. The lack of support.

Hopefully DX12 makes it easier to do although even then I dunno how.

An API that supported multi-GPU without game devs having to put the effort would be pretty great

I have two settings. One I use with my headphones that have good sound cancellation. This has the fans at 90% at full load and temps never went above 69c.

The other is fans at 70% and temps high 70's low 80's

I hope so. I'll look to see how the support is with the 480's and then maybe upgrade to Vega CFX if AMD can bring some meaty performance.
