Are these Firestrike results good?

Crusader93

Hey!

Got my Gainward gtx 1080 GS today. I ran a quick standard FireStrike to see what scores i got. Are these results good? http://imgur.com/kZQrwOC

I have not used 3dmark before, so i have to ask :)

This looks very low for a 1080, what drivers are you running ? Check out the 3DMark thread to compare with other 1080's (BTW Gainward isn't the most recommended brand, prepare for a potential shitstorm :D )

Sorry for Bad English, Baguette here

Only reason i picked it, was i got it fast. The cooling system on it is very good.

you think? Shouldnt it kinda bottleneck the graphics card in benchmarks if that is the case?

According to guru3D: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1080_review,28.html

As you can see they got 21.905 graphics score. But they got twice the score in Physics, but i found out that my CPU is a little bottleneck in that area. But since i got the same graphics score, shouldnt my system play games as good?

If the game isn't bottlenecked by the cpu then yes.

Depends on the game. Most games rely much more on the GPU than the CPU and in those cases you will have similar performance to systems with newer CPU's. In games that use the CPU heavily you will not get the same performance as a system with a newer CPU.

Arma 3 is a great example of a game that absolutely needs a good CPU, where games like Battlefield care more about the GPU.

None of the games i play(i do not play arma 3 doe) is bottlenecked by the CPU, atleast not according to MSi afterburner results. SO the graphics score is where it should be for an gtx 1080?

Yes, your card is performing as it should.

Am i right when i assume that the physics test taxes most on the cpu?

Yes, that is correct. All physics calcs are done on the CPU. Nvidia Physx also does physics calculations on the GPU, but use of that software is pretty rare and generally only applies to extra effects and not the base physics system.

Sounds excellent. That means i dont have to switch out my 4,4Ghz i7 2600k for a while yet :P

SO you think the overall result is what it should be(gpu wise)?

Depend, some games will benefit from faster IPC and/or some will benefit from faster system RAM speed (DDR4 in Skylake).

Actually the GLH has the best overclock I've seen yet for a 1080.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

My cpu is holding back in the Physics area Yes. But as you can see, i had 3000 more score than you in graphics score(the one that really counts).

I have found out that i only got 15K points total because of the Physics test. Very few games utilizes Physics according to what i have heard, so it shouldnt be that much of an issue.

we kind of have a 3DMark score database....

wouldn't be bad if you all posted them there, also check out the spreadsheet and compare the results:
