first job as an IT admin
9 minutes ago, whoohaaah said:I just got hired to take over as the sole IT for an entire company.
The company used to outsource to an IT consulting company.
I'm trying to come up with a list of questions that would make my transition seamless.
Here are some basic stuff that I came up with
1. How is the network setup (network map)
2. Location of:
a. Servers (server room)
b. Routers/Firewall/Switches
c. Patch Panels
d. Wireless AP
e. Workstations, Laptops, Printers, etc
f. Place to house spare parts (hardware, software, etc)
3. Asset Management
a. Hardware
b. Software (serial numbers, license keys, etc)
c. All other equipment, etc
4. List of software used
5. Access/Password list
What are some other questions should I ask?
Thanks in advanced.
That probably covers most of what you'd want to know. Anything else would probably be more personalized, such as any special needs that anyone has and how flexible the use of certain software/hardware is in case of it needing to be updated or changed out, and what they may be planning to upgrade to in the future. If relations are still on the good side, with the old IT company that they outsourced, I might try and work with them for some of this information, especially if a large percentage of the people you are working for are tech-illiterate. Good luck with the new job!
