How can I speed up the wi-fi connection to my room?

64bit_warrior

I have the worst Wi-Fi connection in my room in comparison to the rest of the house, it is patchy and slow. I wondered if there was a way to improve the signal, I know there are signal extenders that you can buy fairly cheaply but I have no free wall sockets (as they have to be plugged directly in to the wall, not through an extender) but I do have two "old" PCs which I could use if that might help. I just think it would be cool and different to use a PC case instead of a little box to help. Is this possible?

Welcome to the forums!

You could run an access point closer to your room with a long cord (and use Power over Ethernet), kinda like Linus did in this video:

The other option is to run a long ethernet cable to your room and just use Ethernet

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

The problem is, my room is the room positioned the furthest away from the router on the other side of the house, so the ethernet cable would have to be over the floor and over the carpet, so would look messy

no it does not

you can spend a few hours and make a cable run almost invisible

laying it across the floor is lazy

it doesnt have to be that way
