Holy hell! Doing a custom EK water cooling setup is this expensive!?

Sweet tap dancing Christ on a crutch! I would have to spend THIS amount of money if I wanted to do a customized basic CPU/GPU cooling setup for my rig!!???  Man, I dunno if I wanna spend this kinda money just to dabble back into water cooling...holy fucking ouch.

Mine so far will cost over 1k and I am also doing 1 gpu and 1 cpu

Yup. Anyone who told you that doing a proper (read: nice looking) custom water cooling loop is cheap was lying through their teeth.

That shit gets expensive quick. I've seen some of the crazy competition builds where the fittings alone add up to around $1000 USD.

Yep. I spend about £600-£700 on my loop in the end, with basically everything being from EKWB.

Well put it this way the fittings for my loop are half of the cost... so yeah about $1k should be enough for that kind of setup.

Well it depends if your going soft or hard tubeing 

soft is fairly easy and you only need a good set of sheers for a clean cut

for harde tubein you will need the tubeing, saw, heat gun, and inner rubber piece to keep the tube from crushin when bending the tubeing. You can also get different radius jigs to bend the tubeing around to get perfect bends. Depending on brand and amount this can run 20-$200  and don't forget die if you don't plan on running distilled water  that can run from 10-$40

You will need 2 for every component plus 2 per block and 2 for your pump minimum. Also you will need fittings for any angled connectors you may have.

also buy from performance PC they sell all the same parts but shipping is cheaper

Yes but you could save yourself some money by just doing your CPU for now becouse most 980tis don't benefit that much form water cooling over the aircooling that is already on them and if you were going to do your graphics card also I would get another rad as well but what you have is fine. Just get it from performance PC

Actualy, the 980ti Kingpins are designed for water and temps are whats very much limiting me right now on air cooling

thats may be true but with only a single 280 rad you will see similar temps as you would with the card on air

I would add another of the tubing and the pastel concentrate to be on the safe side, but that's just me. You'll almost certainly be fine with what you have but you never know what might crop up, especially when leak testing.

Two thing I would recommend, for the tubing and fittings since your piecing it out go for 3/8ID 5/8OD, thick walled tubing it doesn't kink and easily to the thin stuff, and for the res unit if your looking for silence go for a tube res and pump or combo unit the bay res units tends to readily transfer vibrations and noises into the case.

Arct1c0n, you have a dual 140mm radiator but the 2 fans you selected are 120mm.  So you either need to switch your 280 rad for a 240 rad or switch your 2 120mm fans for 2 140mm fans.

Honestly it isn't that much. For what you get. Also lets not forget how Linus's waterblock turned out. I think we should leave it to the EK gods.

Hard tubing doesn't cost any more, as long as you don't waste too much tubing in bad bends.

That looks about right.    I have about 1K in my loop, not counting extra tubing and fluid I have gone through, or the parts I have replaced over time as my needs changed.

I would imagine a basic loop more like this:  Res/pump > GPU > Rad > CPU > Rad > Res/pump.

 

I don't know about loops much, does this matter much?

Order doesn't make a difference in terms of performance, as for rad space a 280mm would be the absolute bare minimum, ideally a 360mm but with the new cards being very low power it wouldn't have much problem.

It just feels weird to have heated water move to another component (heat producing) to cool it.

 

I know the temp equalizes, just feels weird.

The fluid move extremely fast in a loop once, it reaches equilibrium the amount of cooling and heating equalize out basically so it doesn't readily carry heat to the next component in a meaningful way.
