FULL STORY: http://tgbuzz.com/minecraft-blamed-actual-school-violence-129/

We’ve all heard the people claiming that games such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Call of Duty cause real word violence, but we’ve yet to hear that claim directed towards the seemingly harmless Minecraft. That is, until now.

"It has fighting, therefore will cause people to be violent."

I've heard theories that violent games have the opposite effect. I think it depends, if you for example show a little child depictions of very vivid realistic violent scenes that might harm them mentally.

At the worst, some video games may desensitize people from real world violence. But they do not cause it.

how about real life violence, huh? That doesn't affect people in any way? You start blaming video games, and the next thing you know is, you are blaming music, movies, news, and even real life for spoiling people into committing violence. I don't know where these news reporters are getting their logic from.

I LOVE this argument. It's up to the parents. End of discussion. There should be 0 government regulation, I'm tired of news reports on this, I'm tired of talk shows on this. I've been playing violent video games since i was 6. Hell, my favorite game at the age of 6 was Metal Gear Solid 2, I came out just fine! Honor student, Varsity Sports, good friends. Honestly this kind of news is just rubbish. I would love to be on one of these 'discussions' and just destroy everyone.

Punish the parents that let they're 8 year old son sit on the xbox screaming over cod because they don't want to deal with him. People of this generation really irk me....smh

I personally believe bad parenting causes violence and ignorance and stupidity and self-centered and douchbag-ness.

Most pet owners are worse (wink-wink), especially around where I live (HK), it's absolutely bulls that so many dogs bark everyday at around 0400. People need to sleep!

Then again, I am not exact the run-of-the-mill Chinese, even though I am Chinese, I hate Chinese, especially those from China.

Excuse my rant, I am really really annoyed about things.

HA! Whats hilarious is that it only matters when the subject is popular. Imagine if LTT was way more known: "New story today, Tech Tips = building a robot killing machine? how to save your children. Coming up next..."

It is not about games or movies or ANY kind of media, its about how the parents teach their kids to respond to those things.

Minecraft doesn't even have guns in it. I think this just shows how bigoted and down right stupid the medias view is on video gaming. Minecraft must be one of the least violent game out there.

The media ran with the story but it was the father of the kid that first claimed the child brought the gun to school because of Minecraft. He was probably covering the fact that it was his gun which a nine year old somehow had access to.

I'm sorry for asking this, as this is rather sensationalist thing, though I whole-heartedly agree on the point, I do have to ask where's the actual source from?

I didn't see the source anywhere, none on that article, none on that site.

found it nvm

What is the reason for anyone to own a gun other than it's for sport. There is no legitimate reason for anyone to own a gun. Those that say it's their right to own or it's for protection are quite naive. If it's for protection then just don't go outside at night or don't walk in bad areas. And how does owning a gun give you freedom. There is nothing wrong with owning a gun however you need to be able to legitimise a reason to own one.

Nope.

It's bad parenting that a gun wasn't locked up away from access of a kid. Guns are not the problem, irresponsible people are. Criminals are always going to have access to firearms regardless of the law because they are criminals. To strip citizens of the right to defend themselves in case of a break in ect. is what is naive. The police aren't magically going to rush in to save the day in mere seconds. Someone could have been shot dead by the time police arrive.

In the UK you have the right to defend yourself but not if you have planned to protect yourself in the past. For example if someone breaks in and you grab your gun that is stored in a box or a kitchen knife from the knifer block then that is fine and legal. However if you have a gun tapped to the bottom of your table of a cricket bat behind your door then that is pre-planned. What is wrong with that. People can say what they want but letting everyone in America able to buy a gun or have access to a gun is a bad idea, it means that nut jobs have complete access to guns. Not that I care as I live in the Uk which as a very fair gun license law.

I think the problem is access. If I had control of the country, I would make citizens take a strict test on having children and owning a gun. Some people just shouldn't have them period. I'm all for responsible gun ownership.

Anyone below 25 shouldn't be able to own a gun in my opinion, there are alternatives to actual firearms like airsoft guns. A psychological test should be taken before anyone is given a license to.

Minecraft taught me, that sometimes a sheep just needs to be pushed through a fence ;)

If the person in question had punched a tree until his hands became bloody. harvested chunks of wood, then continued to punch it further into planks and eventually sticks. Construct various tools and weapons somehow. Then proceeded to attack pigs, cows, and chickens to gather food for the impending night, at the same time attacking others he came across with a wooden sword... Then I would say minecraft may have helped point him towards violence, but it sure wasn't the cause of it because that kid was unstable to begin with.

As for the contents of his bag, I'd say he wasn't playing minecraft... None of those "items" are in the game... There are no guns, ammunition, hammers, or knives. If he brought a machete claiming it to be an iron sword, I could buy that.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

The funniest and probably the most wrong thing I've seen on Minecraft is when my girlfriend had like 10 chickens kinda hanging in the air dropping their eggs into a little pool of water till they reached the middle of the pool to fall into a hole in the center. Those poor chickens just flailing around in the air... :D
