Best Open-Back Headphones < $200

I completely understand that there is no "best pair of headphones" and that it all depends on preference. It's difficult to shop for headphones since there are so many but I want to hear what your favorite pair is so I can check some of them out. Also keep in mind that my budget is about $200 but I will be willing to go up to $300 if I have to but no more than that.

Ya I've come across those before but they are so incredibly ugly I looked elsewhere. And that's coming from someone who owns noctua fans and an Enermax Ceonus case. I know that there is a black version but it costs significantly more and I'm not sure I'm willing to pay that premium.

OP the 558 sounds 95% the same as the 598 and you can just do a really simple mod and they will sound 100% the same.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

HD558 shouldn't cost more. If you're buying from US amazon, the 598 SE (black) costs the same as the original.

My favorite sub-$200 headphones are definitely the AKG K7xx's, but you'd have to wait for another offering from Massdrop.

What is your use for them? Just listening to music on an iPod, cell phone, computer/console gaming? If computer/console gaming, I love my Astro A40's. They also have a wireless version in the Astro A50's but they are at the max of your budget of $300, the A40's run around 250

K7xx is probably the best open headphone under 200, for closed, probably T50RP MK.III (have listened to it myself)

Do you know how mkIII compares to modded mkII?

I was planning on modding mine, dbv #3, but if the mkIII are better, then....

Just looking at Amazon, and both of the colored variants are priced pretty much the same.

I've only tried alpha dogs and prime, both are obviously better than the mkiii but that's obvious given the price difference

Make sense.

Ill probably just  stick to modding my MKII because MKIII are esentially MKII modded

Well i believe MK.III has new driver but a modded MK.II can definitely sound better than a stock MK.III
