True enough, you probably could CF with that PSU if the TDP leaks are accurate.

I'm... actually kind of disappointed.

200$ for a 480 would mean that it's nowhere near the performance of a 980Ti/1070 as I hoped; I may have to wait until Vega...

I honestly want to know what the compute performance will be like. I'm planning a second rig that I can use at home when not at college during the school year as well as mining Ether. That price/performance point would be perfect.

Why are you disappointed? It's half the price of the 1070 but reportedly significantly more than half as powerful.

I'd like to switch to team red AND 4K... but a 480 won't be enough as far as it looks.

I was hoping for a higher tier, maybe 350$ for the full Polaris 10 but with performance close to or better than those of the 1070; then ~550$ for full Vega

Polaris isn't touching the 1070. Nothing AMD has ever said indicates that 980 Ti level performance was their target with Polaris. But if the WSJ is accurate and this is an R9 390x for $199 that is unreal value. Midrange buyers being able to get a locked 60 fps ultra at 1080p or playable 1440 high for less than two bills would be absolutely killer.

200 dollars is a perfect price. If they charged more I would have went with a GTX 1070, since I am not going to get worst performance for a little less in cost. If they are matching 980 then they have effectively changed the demand because many will not be getting used cards anymore.

SLI will destroy the used 980 ti prices.

True. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. But why would Nvidia dropping its prices bite into AMD sales, especially if AMD does end up having a superior product?

I'm not expecting AMD to have a superior product but rather one at a better price point with higher performance/dollar. Nvidia dropping prices would reduce AMDs pricing advantage. If AMD has a superior product, then that's a different story entirely.
