Not to mention it sounds a bit too good to be true....it could be specofic to VR due to new VR cheats / technologies (much like nvidia). That is have no problem believing.

It might not initally be good for their bottomline, but if it sells like... Hmmm trying to think of an allusion that's not the common form... 

How about... If it sells like survival supplies right before impending nuclear annihilation or a looming zombie apocalypse. Then it'll make up for its reduced price. Especially if it's in R9 Fury territory, and the R9 480X being about $50 to $100 more expensive than the R9 480 being in GTX 1070 territory (I know that's not where AMD's lineup normally works but maybe it will be that way this year.)

Well it is 14nm not 16nm like Pascal so AMD could have pulled this one off. Not to mention all those engineers and people that went to work at AMD from Nvidia. Also all the money they got from China and intel's 3rd party company. Don't let us down AMD!!! Also if it performs as well as a 980 or 380X then I could pick up....three

How about... If it sells like survival supplies right before impending nuclear annihilation or a looming zombie apocalypse. Then it'll make up for its reduced price. Again, it of course all depends what kind of performance the 480/X actually have (both in and, more importantly, out of VR).

GPUs are priced by cost of production, not performance of the gpu. This is a smaller chip than the 390x, so pricing it so low does not negatively affect their bottom line. They're not being sold at a loss.

Very true, But I'm not sure Nvidia would want to drop their prices that far. I mean they can afford it but yeah if the performance isn't quite R9 Fury Perf. on the R9 480, then certainly Nvidia doesn't need to drop the price.

It does affect their bottom line if they could have larger margins by charging a bit more for it. Going the ultra cheap route doesn't work well in terms of end game profitability.

True. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. But why would Nvidia dropping its prices bite into AMD sales, especially if AMD does end up having a superior product?

I agree, but I gave a higher price to RAM and SSD so as to get higher grade models. RAM is in dual channel. And a Polaris GPU won't need those 520 watts apparently :D.
But all things considered, if we shave those euros as you mentionned, you can get a pretty decent rig at around 800€. Even less by digging more into the interwebs

TDP of 480 is supposedly 130W so 520w PSU might even be more than enough.

there is no real "quality" in more expensive ram, and the 850 evo is high grade enough for me :)
