How can you ask about something cheap when you want to buy a 1060 later on always. If you have the money to spend on two cars what about getting a higher tier card in the first place?? I wouldn't recommend buying anything right now since the first 1060s were already spotted. Might as well wait rather that spend your money today.

What's a good budget GPU to buy while waiting for the GTX 1060, I don't want to spend too much on a gpu right now while getting ready to build my new system but I'm looking for something cheap to use for temp use until the 1060 is released. Any suggestions ?

Just wait a week for the R9 480? It's going to perform like a Fury at much lower power draw and price

750ti mostly bottlenecking a lot of system. Why don't you get R9 370 for $200ish. or the GTX 960 or R7 370. The choice is yours

What?

BTW, the 370 is just a rebadged R7 265 (and I think that was a rebadged 7850), a 7950/7970 is faster and cheaper!

so yeah, a 7950/7970 for $100-150? Or even a 7850 for $50 (since people are suggesting the 370)

Just wait then. If you´re not buying the parts right now, wait a bit for Polaris or similar to drop.

Frankly I didn't think of that up until a friend pointed it out to me last year. I mean I knew about AMD re-naming scheme, I just never paid attention that much attention. Then I realized I could get a 7870 for $70 (CAD) ... I know it only has 2GB of VRAM but that's not the point, it's almost at par with a 370, plus I only game a few hours a week, and it's not even in 1080p, so price to perf. ratio was prevalent in my choice. I don't regret it!

It's also said that it's what the next gen consoles use. People usually referring it as the Console Killer.

True.  To me, a budget GPU is under about $50-70 or so, and a high-end GPU is over $200-300 or thereabouts.  An "admit this person to the mental hospital, stat!" GPU would be $400-500 or more.

That upper end could be raised somewhat if you're keeping the GPU a long time.  For example I'm looking at getting a GTX 1070 (pending Polaris info/reviews - performance and efficiency are both important to me - I would have chosen a 970 over a 390), which could touch that territory, but I plan to keep it until it either won't hit 24fps maximum at low settings at 480p in games I play, or won't run them at all.

I remember when I used to play games and was lucky to get 10-15 fps at 320x240 and low settings, so I'm kind-of used to playing with lesser settings.  I do like to get the best I can afford and keep it a long time.
