GTX 1070 or GTX 1080

XdoniasRadeon

I'm looking to get a summer job this summer to save up for a fast pc build but should i get a gtx 1070 or gtx 1080? i'm looking to do alot of editing and gaming but im not sure if i should spend the extra on the 1080 if im going to be editing (photoshop, FL studio), What do you think would be the best option?

I'll hazard a guess at 1070, if they release a ti model next year it will likely be not too much more than a 1080. So price for performance will likely be 1070 again and for those with the ability to spend more they'd be better off going with the ti.

I don't think either the photoshop or FL studio really benefit from powerful GPUs

Wait to see benchmarks of them along with Polaris gpu's

This is becoming horribly boring every year (At least for the 2 generations I looked at) ,the Polaris will end up *magically* performing the same or little better (I seriously wonder how do they do that every year)

In the end in comes down to who has a lower price

I would vote for the 1070

Current system - ThinkPad Yoga 460

1080 is listed for 600$ and probably 700$ with an AF cooler
1070 for 400$ and likely 450$ for AF coolers. Prices are shit

And they can boast their VR performance, but the fact of the matter is...noone can properly field-test VR performance. As the units themselves double framerates to retain 90fps. Same as DX12, both windows and developers have to still get their shit together before we can have proper VR and DX12 framerate/frametime assessments.

So far they've been completely unreliable. And you shouldn't base your purchase off any of those results just yet. Anyone wanting to drop this amount of dosh on a GPU should wait for polaris tbh.

Fuck me though, 599. That's 734 euro after taxes for stockmodels. Insane prices.

1080 looks good but the price is awful. I can barely afford a 960 at the moment so if I go to Pascal, I'd be looking at a 1050 ._.

The price is fine in the USA, not sure if taxes + import stuff screws it up over there for you guys. It outperforms a 980 ti and Titan X, whilst being roughly the same price as the 980 ti launched for.

why can't the prices be the same as the ones we have now, a 980 ti is about 850$ in Denmark and a 980 is about 630$... I would love to get a 1080, but I will most likely wait for the 1080 ti or titan.

I'd steer clear of 1080. I suspect it will play out the same as current gen. 1070 will hold best value and 1080 will get stomped by the ti a year later for a not too different price.

yeah that is likely true... I hate that they do that, I want my 1080 ti now or the top model from AMDs Polaris.

I don't think anything will be like the joke that was the 980 after the 980Ti launch.  Even the 680 did not share the same fate as the 980, it lived on in millions of peoples machines by masquerading as a 700 series card.

Also the 980 vs 780Ti argument was weak at best until a few months before the 980Ti, right now we're looking at a die shrink and jesus those motherfucking core speeds.  So while the concern is justified, I think 980Ti to 1080 upgrade isn't that far-fetched.

I've no doubt the 980ti to 1080 is gonna be a nice jump. But for peeps with the current high end I don't see a reason to buy early. Wait a year and get the ti with 10-12gb, better clocks etc. Current gen high end will last you a couple of years yet, no need to rush.

You're assuming enthusiasts have reason.  Most of them don't.  Many of us included.
