Guitar thread.

jameshumphries47

So i wonder how many of you guys play guitar, and if so i thought it would be pretty cool to have a chat.

So i have two guitars at the moment.

Epiphone Dr-100 in black

Epiphone ES-339 in cherry red

Marshal MG15CDR

I LOVE my 339, so much, i play it all the time, i love my dr-100 but i much prefer electric apposed to acoustic.

i play Oasis, Noel Gallagher stuff, what songs do you guys play? and what guitars?

It's been like 3 years since I don't play but I still have 2 B.C. Rich guitars (A Beast jr. and a Warlock) My amp died so I am without one though I might get something like a tiny 5 watt Blackstar 1x12 combo or something.

Don't play much these days, still noodle on the accoustic now and then though.

Built this one about 5 years ago.

Also built a Minarik Medusa ripoff but I can't find any pix...
Have a heavily modified Epi korina explorer in a cupboard somewhere and an Ovation acoustic as well.

Safe to say I was much better at building guitars than playing.... But when I did play it was all progressive stuff. Coheed, Karnivool etc.

I haven't played guitar in a long while since I mostly played my dad's guitars. I'm wanting to buy a Taylor GS Mini though.

I mostly build guitars at my dad's Company. Though I'm a bassist myself, building 6 strings remains fun.

Here's one of the guitars I've worked on.

Thats really cool man, did you put those inlays in, or are they the sticker type?

i actually really like it, got the LP style switch, and a tele shape, very nice!!! How much would something like that sell for?

Im panning on buying an Epiphone dot 335, adding a b7 bigsby, new dials, and maybe some block inlays. Im not sure yet. May even put in some new pickups.

Generally our tele's run around 2400euros.

Seems like a good project, I'd like to see the results when you put her together.

Sweet. I just got a cheap as chips Epiphone Tobias bass. It's all I could afford, but I think it's pretty good.

Shoddy image with shoddy bed.

Plan is to get both in the end. But I wanted bass to learn on. Plus, I am bias towards the instrument because of bassists like Steve Harris and Cliff Burton. :D

  • 4 weeks later...

I've been playing for something like 10-12 years, but only wanted to take it seriously for the past couple. I've had exams and health problems holding me back for ages, but hopefully I'll be able to attack with gusto this summer!

Here's my pride and joy:

Suhr Modern Satin with a bareknuckle juggernaut in the bridge. Got some more wiring stuff to do this summer to change the switching. Tis a thing of beauty.

Here's m'AxeFxII. Glorious

Oh, shiny. Am jealous.
Have you played with the new Line 6 helix rigs? Been eyeing one of them if I were ever to get back into playing... And realistically the Axe-fx is years old at this stage, so its less on my radar.

It's an amp and effects modeller. So basically every tone I could ever need! It's great for someone like me who doesn't really play live, but records a lot and hasn't really found what 'their sound' is. I can also use it as studio outboard gear for processing other signals from synths or anything from a DAW through. It's incredibly expensive, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you know exactly what it does and if you 'need' one :P

I haven't played a Helix, but if youtube is anything to go by, they sound pretty great! The AxeFx II mark II and XL+ were released in 2014, and while it is 2 years ago, the software updates and support are unlike anything I've ever seen. As far as I'm aware, they're still releasing new software for the Ultra which is from 2008! In that way, I don't this its age makes it remotely less relevant. I'm sure you'd have a great time with a Helix! There's also the Fractal AX8 to consider as well.
