Intel i9?

So I was browsing teh tinterwebs about CPU's (I'm such a nerd); and I found out that Intel were making some noise about an i9 processor. Some people say that it became the Extreme series, others say that the dropped it. What do you guys know?

I wonder what an i9 would have over the i7, i5, and i3. Also curious how there's no 'i1'.

It would make sense of them doing 4930k and above the i9

Dual core /hyper i3

Quad core/non hyper i5

Quad core/ hyper i7

Six core/hyper i9

Makes sense

i9 = Xeon?

no. Xeons are for servers.

Why don't they make an i1 as a super-efficient APU for office PCs? And i9 would be an 8-core.

There is no i1 because they already had at least 2 gens of core 2 series chips most likely. Also 3 5 and 7 are all prime idk if that means anything.

Quite some time ago there was a rumor that the processors for LGA 2011 (before they were launched) might be called i9 XXXX, however it turned out that Intel decided to stick to the familiar i7 brand name.

Not really there were i7 processors for the mainstream platform and for the the enthusiast (x58)
