So I was doing so shite in chemistry this moring, casually procceding along the security procedure in the lab when, all of a sudden, a couple of drops of NaOH [0.0500M] dripped along my hand. Now, like any logic gentlemen, I did what had to be done, which is continuiing after just drying it ogg with some brown paper. At another point in the lab that happened again, only this time I washed my hand as soon as possible.

So I'm just wondering if I'll be scarred for life?

Skin Contact: CORROSIVE. Contact can cause pain, redness, burns, and blistering. Permanent scarring can result. A severe exposure can cause death. Burns may not be immediately painful; onset of pain may be delayed minutes to hours.

does it burn, is the question?

Wash your hands thoroughly

0.05M is barely anything

it will not hurt you at all

its fine if it wasnt that concentrated (i forgot all about chemistry, soz :D)

just remember to think whether if the chemical will react with water (like potassium) before washing your hands `-`

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

lol your fine. If your actually worried, http://www.flinnsci.com/Documents/SDS/S/SodiumHydroxideSol0.3-6M.pdf .

NVM your definitely fine, .05 M is a very low concentration. Assuming you didnt take a bath in it it is perfectly safe.

.05 M you'll be fine. But always run copious amounts of water after skin contact. MSDS Recommends 15 min cold water flush after skin contact. But again, 1-2 drops of .05 M, you'll have no issue. I come into direct contact with .34 M all the time and a quick rinse does the trick thankfully. In stronger conentrations NaOH is very caustic.

You're good to me. That concentration is pretty low, and a drop or two won't do anything, especially if you washed your hands carefully. Some time ago a friend in the lab accidentally dropped a few drops of Hydrochloric acid (HCl) on his hand: it burnt for a few minutes, but just that, no negative repercussions. Just remember that at school they'll hardly ever let you handle something that might damage you permanently.

Fun fact: had a chemistry test on nomenclature a few hours ago.

Well here we handled chloroform a few weeks ago, heard that that stuff is a mutagen as well as a cancer inducer, so, you know, pretty nice stuff indeed.
