assuming all the other parts are the same, most likely you dont have to reformat.

maybe just the motherboard drivers

There is no such thing as a bad PC, there are only BETTER PCs

Your HDD/SSD contains drivers for the motherboard controller chip.  You will have to reformat unless you happen to get a same brand/generation motherboard with the same controller chip.

Very fast.  Quick format either just deletes the file system flags all data as overwritable.

SSD = instant

HDD = 1 minute?

And just as a regular format It wipes all files correct?

Regular format resets all bits to 0, so yes it wipes all files beyond recovery.

actually as long as you are willing to spend some time installing drivers on a very finicky system, you can easily swap boards without a reinstall. If you don't believe me, remember that people like Linus carry an ssd with a copy of windows around and swap it into several other machines without much issue.

Its automatic, just press this button!

I swapped my motherboard few weeks ago. I uninstalled all of the old motherboard drivers, physically installed the new one and installed the new drivers. I changed from Asus to Asus so i´m not too sure. Everything works fine to this date. I did not reinstall windows, but it asked me to enter a new license key.

To avoid issues, it´s probably the best to just do a clean install.

Fanboys, on both sides, are quite embarrassing. How can one be a "fan" of a company? A companies only goal is to make a profit off you. Instead of being a smart consumer and base your purchase decision on the best price / performance you choose to dick yourself over by only considering brand X. Idiotic loss to be honest.

Once you format your Hardrive/SSD it wil get rid of everything that was previously on there and doesn't take long. Once thats done, just install windows, wait for it to install and just follow the setup wizard and install your programs,drives and files.
