Doom open beta

Hey everyone,

just trying to figure out how much interest there is in doom and if people here will be participating in the pc beta this weekend? (opens at like 5am U.K time) 

I've a mostly freed up weekend so i'm probably going to play the hell out of it!

I played the closed Beta. Its Fun, but im more interested in the Doom SP.

The initial looks at the closed beta suggest its not all that fantastic. Maybe the single player will be worthwhile but I don't hold out a lot of hope for that either based on what I have seen. That talent walked out at ID a long time ago.

I was quite interested until I saw the shitty mechanics that they implemented.

No equal starts and stupid upgrades ruin it for me.

hmm... i've seen a lot of negativity for doom lately.. especially for the multi player but i'm holding out hope it will be a good arena shooter, which is something i don't feel like there has been in a few years.. plus i think the main pull for me is the single player campaign at the moment from what i've seen i think it looks great!

I'm interested in seeing how undoom like the new Doom is. I was hoping that it would be more like an Arena shooter. The more I see it, the more it seems like they nerfed everything under the sun and took away everything that made doom feel like doom.

 

I will get validation this weekend.

i've never really played a lot of the older doom games... this one just unlocked on steam though and its been good fun.. fast paced and super gore! definitely worth a play.. ill be putting some hours in this weekend!

Downloading now. Original Doom was my first FPS and I found I suck at them, so doubt I'll get far in this one but have to see what they've done with it. Screenshots look nice but I'm not sure the feel is there. Like when Hollywood remakes classic films, it feels like the visual effects are more important than the content.

Lost interest as soon as I logged in to see it was multi-player only, and team based at that? Well, I might still give it a go since I already downloaded it, but I will have to apologise in advance to whatever team it puts me in as I will drag them down.

haha fair enough.. i think that was the intention with it being a mutliplayer beta though..

The doom beta is getting bashed everywhere I look. Seems like the mp was outsourced. What a shame.

Game is pretty fun, however I cannot enjoy it since my fps is absolute shit. I'm getting between 30 and 60 fps with my overclocked R9 280 and 4690k.

Anyone else having issues, any fixes?

So far I got to lvl 5, and game is fun to a degree. Played only Team DM, will try other mods later. I'm far more interested in SP. At least it runs flawlessly.

That's weird i loaded it up on my laptop (970m) and im getting pretty smooth 50-60fps... its a shame you cant tinker with the settings in this build

 

strange that the opinion on it seems to be pretty harsh, i'm genuinely enjoying it and looking forward to the full release and SP....

 

P.s if anyone's looking for someone to play with i'm going to jump on for a bit now.

Yes, when you've had the chance to play the game in a beta form pre-ordering is truly a horrible thing to do.

I played a good 4 hours today and really enjoyed it.  I dont even usually play multiplayer games and I've been loving it.  Most any gripe that I have with it is because it is in beta and has already been addressed as features that will be in the full game (SLI support, unlocked FPS, single player).  Some matches can be a bit frustrating but overall they seem rather well balanced and once you get the hang of things, everything is even between players which I appreciate over some multiplayer games that give perks to higher ranked players. 

 

I did notice that I was getting "one shot" blasted by people while I was at full health with armor (not by people using the gauss cannon) and it is actually a combo of the static rifle and the shotgun.  hit em with the rifle and then switch to the shotgun quick, melee if necessary  

 

dont get me started on the transporter, its great sneaking up on someone... while you are in a firefight with them 

 

I'm down to play tomorrow evening if anyone is interested (6pm ish, central time US)    I think it ends tomorrow night?
