Still, they are clinging to CMT, and if they only use it their AM4 APU.....and don't make Zen APU....

I hope you're trolling. Because you cannot be implying that they're not making an Zen APU.

Fine, it's $71.204565... to be more precise but just saying...you could get sandy bridge i5's last year for the same price of a x4 845 now :D

locked sandy's, yes.

unlocked. Oh hell no.... I havent seen a unlocked Intel i5 go below 100 USD without it being painfully obvious that "this chip is burnt out and i hope you will not notice before you pay me".

True dat :P I'm still happy with my 2300 for my secondary machine where back then, I had to dedicate 2 of my 4 cores of my i5 3570k on hosting game servers...now it has a 560 which I picked up for cheep as I wanted something that could run most games at 1080p and lowest settings fine

Actually. You are slightly wrong.

Bristol Ridge (Excavator APU) and the AM4 socket/platform is launching around summer

ZEN FX (or whatever they call it) is launching around end of 2016.

ZEN APUs are not destined before Q1 or Q2 2017.

AMD has on several occasions said that they are pushing for "high end desktop CPUs" first. probably in an effort to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

AMD also knows that with DDR4, their Tonga based iGPU found in Bristol Ridge alongside a pretty decent 2 module 4 thread Excavator CPU is more then capable of securing the mobile and iGPU market.

The last we heard was either Q4 2016 or H1 2017 for Zen FX (or whatever it will be called), so I went with the latter which is safer.

after my HD 7950 burnt out, i bought a GTX 950 for my mini ITX setup... Now i need a less ridiculous PSU though.

You know, its fine using a 750w Corsair RM PSU for a 7870k that is running 4.6GHz and a HD 7950 running at 1125Mhz on the core and 1650 on the memory.... You sorta need that.

But when running with a GTX 950 and a X4 845 (locked. Baseclock OC only), then you realize that you are so fucking screwed by having that huge lump of PSU in there.

pegiWh8.jpg

.... Yes, it is ridiculous.

On the flip side. That x4 845 running at 106-108 baseclock (results in about 3.7 stock to 4.07 turbo clock speed) is faster in single core then my FX 8320 is at 4.5GHz. That is fun....

atleast i KNOW that the AX1500i wont fit in there.

And no, i am not giving away my FX 8320 nor my Asus 990FX Sabertooth board.

the 820, if you're willing to pay for it, sure.

I dont really like it. I loved it in the beginning, but its not silent enough, i so wish the "new" H440 model was out when i was shoppin for a case. That white version is so fucking ballin.

that's why I want it for free...don't have the dosh to either get a dual slot HS or a new case for my second 290x...and I don't want to use the reference cooler...my earssssssssssssssss...(although with British weather, when I first got them, they were both running under 75c gaming and 85c with furmark at 40% fan speed :D

try norwegian winters. Ive had my 295x2 running 1100 on each core and 1600 memory while staying below 55c... although with the window open and -10c rushing down onto my PC directly under the window, it is no wonder it stays cool :P

that AIO isnt very quiet.... its 47dba almost all the time.

And the VRM cooler on the 295x2, when under OC, is NOT quiet. I didnt even know a 55mm fan could make that much noise

my 290x@1175/1350mhz with a h75 and a sp120 at lowest speeds (or at lease with my fan controller) is a slight hum (or maybe it's my h100i fans I'm hearing...it's hard to distinguish which sound is which rad, one is a hum and one is just the air whooshing...) and during gaming, it doesn't go above 65c :D

READ as this sums up what has been going on, everyone misunderstanding what was said despite the explanations:

8 hours ago, DocSwag said:

I think a small miss understanding is causing a giant flame war here...

@Dabombinable made a comment about hoping AMD doesn't stay with CMT. Everyone jumped on him.

Ok, first of all, his point was:

If AMD doesn't make a Zen APU, I'm out of here.

What everyone else though he meant:

Everyone else thinks he means: Zen is still CMT or AMD won't make a Zen APU

For the record, Zen is not CMT. Done.

AMD is most definitely making a Zen APU. It'd be stupid not to. Their 28nm APUs are nearly as good as Intel's 14nm iGPU with integrated DRAM. Bring them down to 14nm, and maybe even add some HBM, and I can easily see AMD having APUs two times if not more powerful than Intels offerings. As well, it's been pretty much confirmed at this point that AMD is bringing out CPUs first in Q4 2016 and APUs will follow in Q2 2017. Whether it's based on Vega or Polaris we don't know. I'd think it might be Vega, though, since the APUs will come out after Vega does.

There. Now shut up and stop calling each other idiots for something they didn't even say.

Also, if you had been reading, I did say that I could make my laptop last until around 2020 to see what AMD releases as it will be next to useless by then. Throwing around the term fanboy blindly......

AMD decided to save die space, they would cut out FPUs from the CPU that aren't really fully used most of the time. The idea was decent, but the execution was terrible. They ended up with a CPU that had less than if not only equally as good IPC as their previous generation and that, because it had less FPUs, would lag behind in some applications as well as gaming. Basically, it was a decent idea in theory that was executed horribly and may not have been as good of an idea as it seemed.

It goes a bit more into that.

1. Most of the CPU's workload is Integer based.

2. Software is becoming increasingly multi-threaded.

3. Die shrinks are becoming increasingly more expensive and difficult

4. Compute loads are being offloaded onto GPU's.

And those are all reasonable assumptions to make, and in a perfect world Bulldozer made plenty of sense. Where problems arose was that GloFo's 32nm ended up being delayed, and was complete ass at first (it's actually quite good now) and software wasn't becoming multi-threaded fast enough.

CMT actually really is not a bad idea, and if you look at later CMT based designs AMD has made some pretty significant strides in improving the core architecture. The reason why we don't see more out of it is because AMD has been stuck on 32nm/28nm for so long, and they basically have a skeleton crew working on Bulldozer.

5. With a better cache arrangement 1 of the integer units/ALU wouldn't end up waiting for the other to finish its task in some circumstances.
