New 1080 > Titan X?

TonyTheNain
Go to solution Solved by MEC-777,

There simply isn't enough information and nobody really knows what the exact performance will be before it launches. Any assumptions are simply that and could very well be wrong. I wouldn't base too much on previous generations because this is the first major architectural change in a long time. It's very difficult to make any guesses at this point.

Hello!

Can someone tell me if the new 1080 GPU will be better or not than the Titan X? And will it have a Ti version?

thx

It'll beat the Titan X by 2000%. Whether my crystal ball is correct or not is TBD.

I think it will be as powerful as SLI'ing a pair of Gt 720's which is insane.

yes, there's someone who can tell you that.

You'll find that person in the R&D of nvidia.

My guess it will follow the same trend as the last gen.  The 980 was a bit more powerful than the 780ti but with a marginal power consumption cut.  I am guessing we might see the same performance/power improvement with the transition of the 980 ti to 1080.  I think they will release a 1080 ti but that could come a year later maybe.

The 980 Ti was released to address a big gap in the Maxwell lineup that AMD exploited by releasing the R9 Fury X. If Nvidia faces a similar need this generation, then we may see a high-end "Ti" card. Otherwise, probably not. Nvidia would much rather sell you GP100 as a $1000+ Titan, than as a ~$650 GTX 1080 Ti.

Maybe this time there will be a gap somewhere else, maybe we'll see a mid-range "Ti" card like we did with the 560 Ti or 750 Ti. There's no guarantee it has to be at the high-end.

The Pascal 1080 would annihilate the Titan X so I suggest buying the Titan Z.

I was pretty certain that my Titan Z conclusion would give away my sarcasm but I guess not.

Performance gains with Pascal is expected to be a pretty impressive 40-50% increase
So you can do the math yourself (980 performance score ) x 1.45 =  ?
