Zeal

Parts/to-do in spoiler. View Post #2 for pictures!

Hello everybody~ Building a new SFF mATX rig to place in a new office building along with some new furniture :) I'll be taking lots of full-res pictures, so stay tuned! Theme of the build will be White, Red, Black with a hint of stainless steel accents.

Here's the components:
i7 4770k - Bought
Asus Maximus VI Gene - Bought
4x8GB 1866 CL9 Dominator Platinums - Bought
Silverstone Tundra TD02 - Not sold anywhere in Canada! Trying to get a hold of one! Ended up buying off Amazon.com
256GB Samsung 840 Pro (boot) - Bought
1TB Samsung 840 Evo - Bought
Silverstone Strider Gold Evolution 750W - Bought
Asus Xonar Essence STX - Bought
Parvum S1.0 White & Red Case - Bought, waiting for it to ship Arrived
Asus 5870 v2 (reusing old video card til 9xxx series cards come out / Maxwell / Volta.) Looking for r9 290s atm. Asus r9 290 DCUII is too fat to fit. Perhaps MSI gaming edition...

Peripherals:
Asus MX279H - Bought
Some white mouse - Haven't decided yet Bought M95 White
Some White Mech Keyboard - Gonna try and source a Filco with custom Thick PBT Keycaps. Bought Ducky YOTS MX Black w/ IMSTO fat O-rings and black anodized aluminum space bar! Trying to find some PBT keycaps now... Just paid for some Red on White Thick PBT keycaps on GH. It's going to look awesome with the red/white theme!
Steelseries 7H - Had it for a couple years, but didn't use it much.

Need to order/purchase:
- Custom Red/White/Black sleeving and wires from Lutro0. Going to make my own short custom wires. Will be crimping each cable and sleeving them heatshrinkless style!
- Fans! Trying to find good looking 80mm white fans that aren't discontinued! Will probably end up using the 80mm fan holes as a passive exhaust. All 120mm fans will be intake.
- PlastiDip. Going to try and spray paint some black fans.

any reason  your waiting for maxwell and not AMD Hawaii ?

bf4 is around the corner and maxwell is a bit far away

everything else looks great

My options are open right now. I'd like to see what AMD and NVIDIA bring to the table. This'll be an office rig, so it wouldn't be appropriate to be gaming too much on it!

I'm interested in seeing what kind of raw power AMD will bring with Volcanic Islands, but at the same time I'm also interested in NVIDIA's unified virtual memory and Stacked DRAM for Volta.

for an office build its overkill no ?

dual core ivy/haswell mini itx  and  small case like a FT03 mini

maxwell is coming Q1 and volta is pretty far

since this isnt a gaming rig  do u  really need a gpu at all ?

Maxwell isn't coming q1. It's 20nm, which won't be ready till late q2, and even then it won't be till q3 or q4 that cards built on that process will be ready.

Is there a reason you decided to get a 1TB SSD in edition to a 256GB boot drive?

Is there a reason you decided to get a 1TB SSD in edition to a 256GB boot drive?

Reliability of an SSD for data/storage, while having the more important programs on the boot. And who wouldn't want a blazing fast SSD for all their data?

And @Appelzaadje, I do in fact have a 980x

Instead of a Filco keyboard, I settled with a YOTS Ducky Shine 3 with MX Blacks and white backlight. Just ordered some 70A super fat red silica gel O-rings from IMSTO to reduce bottom out noise. Just look at the size of it!

Can't wait!

Gonna commence building the rig tomorrow and use my motherboard box as a test bench while I wait for my acrylic case. People are still assembling the furniture as we speak. :P

@103it I was actually looking at that mouse...

that's a sick looking sound card! It's to bad all the cool stuff faces the bottom of out cases.  we all need to stick mirrors of the bottom of our cases.

I was contemplating on having a reverse mATX rig, but then the soundcard's texts would all be backwards and upside down (there's ASUS printed on the side of the card). Since I'll be getting r9 xxx series card, I might as well just look at one with a good backplate. Also most aftermarket coolers blow air onto the card, and having air blowing downwards due to it being upside down isn't the most optimal airflow...
