Why my GTX980ti Hybrid is only using 3.9 MB of 6GB?

RRGT19

I was playing Assasins Creed Syndicate and i saw these numbers and the graphics settings are not at max.

Why I bought 6GB then?.

The game doesn't always need to use all GPU memory that is available to it,

Also 3987MB = about 3.9GB, sooo.

try shadow of mordor or rise of the tomb raider at 2560x1440 and you'll understand why you want 6GB.

What resolution do you game at? You really don't need that kind of VRAM at lower resolutions. Most of it will be wasted at 1080p.

85% GPU load...i would assume it's 1080p...

let me ask you something else then.

I'm using a 1080p monitor for now.

If i have enought power available, why I can not get 60+ FPS with settings at max, for example GTAV?... that is what the 6GB's are for, or not?.

you seem to be CPU bound...the graphics card is not even working at full...you are getting 85% GPU load in the screenshot...

Well for 1080p you dont need 6GB of VRAM. If the cpu can't handle a game in this case as your GPU is only using 85%. Vram doesn't mean more performance when the game doesn't need it.

well...the 980ti isnt really meant for 1080p gaming...it's more a 1440p card...and the games you are playing are in the case of unity badly optimized and GTA 5 is CPU intensive...you could tweak the settings in both games to get more frames.

no

more vram does not make your game run faster

and about 60fps at 1080p sounds normal for ultra settings

gtav is a demanding game

just turn some of the settings down

All games need certain amount of VRAM. Requirements are different. The only time I maxed all 6144MB of VRAM was RotTR with ultra textures. Typically, but not always, well optimized games will use VRAM efficiently.

There is always a few steps to change until Geforce Experience think that you can not get more performance.

Is okay if I do that?, If I get more 60+FPS of course...

what i want to know.

why if i use full settings i can not get more than 60fps if i have a 980ti using 1080p monitor?

stats say that cpu usage is 51% so the cpu is not the problem.

my gpu is damaged or what?

probably just some software optimizations or something

plus the fact that gtav on ultra is extremely GPU intensive, like i showed you in the benchmark
