What are you using it for? Also, probably the wrong category

i5-6600k @ 4.9Ghz | Corsair H110i GTX + 2 x Noctua NF-A14's | ASUS Maximus VIII Ranger |

Corsair Venegance DDR4 8GB | ASUS GTX 970 Strix |Samsung 840 EVO 240GB + 1TB HDD |

Corsair RM850 | NZXT H440 Black | 2 x Noctua NF-F12 + Corsair AF-140

If it's for gaming, the i5 combo would be better, if you're doing video/music/picture editing than you'll want the i7 otherwise an i7 for gaming is overkill and you'd be better off with an i5 and a 980

You know how it is, the cow goes "moo", the dog goes "woof" and the gamer goes "The PvP is unbalanced."

Spoiler

Personal Computer: CPU: i7-4790 Mobo: Asrock Z97 Extreme6 Graphics Card: MSI R9-380  Memory: 16GB (8GB x2) G. Skill Sniper Gaming Series PSU: Apevia Warlock 750W Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Series Storage: 240GB SSD (OS) 3TB HDD (data and such) 500 GB SSD (Movies and Large Data Transfers (I'm constantly moving this one around to other computers))

if your maybe video editing, thats not good enough reason.

you need to be 100% sure on spending $100 more

Keep in mind you will get a better preformance increase from the 980 than the 970 with the i7  on gaming ,EVEN if the i7 is overclocked

depends on the games he plays `-`

some games utilise cpu and ignores gpu (poorly optimised games)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

If your talking about an example like arma 3 the better graphics card still gets more frames

im talking about games like the mmorpg Dragon Nest `-`

it utilise my cpu and only use about 20% of my gpu, and its a stuttery mess when graphics get tough (and GFE recommends me to set settings to high)
