What if diamond was the most abundant element

Guest

so i was in the shower just now and i know everyone thinks of weird shit in the shower

and i was wondering what would happen if diamond was the most abundant element (edit diamond is a compound of carbon atoms i always forget that =P) in the earth

eg: replaces a metal or something like sand or had its own reserve like diamond beaches but still kept the same properties of diamond ut can be melded together or something

so what do you think the world would be like?

if it would've replaced metal... this was a completely different world. Who knows? maybe in the year 2013 we would be using bronze swords and arrows still, and we had no technology at all.

if iron was deep underground and we had mostly diamonds, how can people shape diamonds into something at all?

:/

something is wrong there son.

Maybe that diamond is basically carbon and one of the most abundant elements on earth with that?

yeah i forget that diamond is the giant isotopic lattice or somthing for carbon like graphite (the stuff in the pencil for those who dont know)is made of carbon too

If diamond would be as popular as sand, or if it would took it's place, we would see buildings constructed using diamonds because it's the toughest element in the world

How awesome would look a skyscraper without too manny windows, full of diamonds.

Actually not that awesome because it would act like a gigantic light buld and blinding and frying everyone

they would be cheap as chips and everything abrasive would be made out of diamond (some cutting/grinding wheels etc are of diamond but they cost a bomb). Imagine a dremel blade thats lasts more than 4 seconds....

good

it will be used in more things

bad

if there were diamond beaches then imagine a diamond storm it would be disastrous

it will not be used in everything because its not malleable , hard to shape it into things

if u were building a road etc it will be hell if you encountered a big mass of diamonds

etc etc etc

over all . life will be harder

Well obviously diamonds would be cheaper and be less of a commodity item. Some specific tool which require a sharp edge or point would have diamond implemented more heavily implemented into the design. Unfortunately despite what minecraft might lead you to believe diamonds are not the best material in every use case scenario.

For example if diamond was much more abundant I do not think it would take the place of materials such as steel, concrete and glass in the construction of large buildings.

Yes people like shiny things but I do not think that diamonds would be as commonly used for e.g. engagement rings if they were very abundant and cheap. No matter how shiny diamonds are  your fiancé will probably not be too pleased if the ring only cost you £5 :) .

Carbon makes diamond so, I think thats where your getting this from

Carbon doesn't make diamond, it is transformed into diamond through massive heat, pressure and time.

Diamond is carbon and it may be very abundant but the conditions required to create diamonds isn't, hense why they are so rare.
