Currently building - URGENT HELP

Ae0lus

Okay I'm at the end of my last nerve with the ASUS Z170-A motherboard manual!

It's my first time build so would really appriciate someone educated on this to help me out. Parts that are concerned:

ASUS Z170-A Motherboard

Kraken X61

NZXT H440 Case

My questions are as follows:

Where do I plug the 3-PIN for the Kraken X61?

Where does the MOLEX cable insert into?

What is the Extension Cable and the PWM Cable?

Pictures in the link!

Dear god can someone help me please - I'm spinning in circles

If your are not using that fan splitter on the back the 3 pin directly connects via the CPU header and the power connection from the krkken directly goes to the PSU.

Personally I would ditch the fan hub all together since you have an Asus board they have all PWM or DC voltage capable headers which give you great control.

plug the 3 pin in the cpu fan place. if you mean the molex on the psu dont worry about it if you are talking about a molex connector plug it into the psu

3 pin to the motherboard, if it has 4, still plug it in, it will work

Molex goes to the PSU

Plus PWM cable to the Motherboard as well ( at the fan headers)

Any 4-PIN on the board?

EVGA G2 650W Power supply - I can't see anywhere to plug this?

PWM into where exactly?

as far as I can tell you what I saw until now: the molex will be connected to the PSU; and the PWM thingy will be plugged in into the cpu fan header of your mobo

All the headers on Asus boards are capable of both DC voltage and PWM control with a setting in the BIOS but for the karken unit you want to run it at the full 12V. for the PSU if your do not have any more sata connection you will want to check to see in the cable bag for the PSU for a sata harness for extra sata connections.

You put the 3 pin from your X31 to a 3 pin on your motherboard, (If your pins on your motherboard have 4, you can still plut it in)

Same for your X31 connector, plug them into one of thoes fan places

There should be a connector on your PSU that  looks like this

Molex_female_connector.jpg

Plug  the molex into there

Your PWM is basically a hub that instead of connecting all of them to the motherboard, you connect all to the hub and one wire from the hub to the motherboard, but they all run at 100% FYI

Oh I found the adapter many thanks!

I'm still slightly confused about the PWM cable though?

PWM, put that into fan headers on the motherboad, (look at the picture in my post)

O_O

So the Kraken Unit I want that where? I can essentially ignore the PWM control then?

I have plenty of SATA connections

My Kraken X61 is plugged into that slot...

Should I swap them around then?

no its fine, your good

just make sure its a cpu fan one because it willl be contorlling your cpu temp's and not your case

BTW make your ram like mine, so you can run them in dual channel

So one black in slot 1, and 3

or one in 2 and 4

You woudl simply just wire up the 3 pin to the CPU header which is the pump, the sata is for powering those 4 fan connections fans connections in conjunction with the USB connection using the CAM software if you want to use that.

Done that now!

Okay so GPU just went in - What cable do I use to connect to the PSU?

That is would be the correct cable for hooking up your GPU.

I'm a little confused though as to the cable set-up. I have two 8-PIN slots on my Sapphire R9 390

Yet this cable doesn't want to seem to allow me:

Do I need to use both!

Yes you must plug in both 8 pins on the GPU that harness you have is a 6pin and a 6+2pin one, check to see if your cable bag had a dual 6+2 pin or two separate 6+2 pin cables

Two separate 6+2 pins one side is 8 pin does this go into the PSU or the GPU?

If they are 6+2 pin that side goes to the GPU, the other end to the PSU they should be labeled or even keyed to prevent you from going the wrong way.
