Who Else Hates Vessel?

afyeung

I wonder if these streaming issues people mention are geographically dependent. Vessel definitely runs perfectly fine for me, but maybe their servers/CDN in North America are crap?

The videos don't stutter or buffer at low resolutions for me, but the UI is kinda slow and isn't the best on mobile.

I dislike it

What I said is that 1080p would buffer for me when YouTube wouldn't because of their superior video processing

Vessel is awful, I'd rather flush my money in the toilet than supporting that website (I'm not talking about LTT but vessel itself).

I've never really had a problem with Vessel besides the layout and function being a little awkward but I'd pay for it if I had the money (Which is quite a bit less than Youtube Red.)

Free year or not, many won't even consider moving platforms to follow one publisher. Sure it sounds like Vessel have more interesting publishers onboard. Though on Youtube you can just jump in and find whatever you need, without even thinking about subscription or membership.

There is no hiding it, there are financial reasons for LTT doing this, and Vessel probably offered them a deal worth more than what they make from Youtube.

Sounds like you will lose out on early vids and there will probably be coverage exclusive only to Vessel. Either make everything available on Youtube or lose views, cause I will not sign up for a new platform.

I've not had many issues with Vessel. Infact, I've had less issues with Vessel studdering than that YouTube studdering... There are 7 channels I watch on Vessel, 4 of which are Linus Related, the other 2 aren't. The Bit Rate on the Videos (Particularly noticeable on Linus Tech Tips channel) seems low, I don't notice it any where else tho. I also like the comment system as much as the YouTube system. The Threads system is a nice touch too, it's just never used. My biggest complaint is the lack of the comment viewing thing that the YouTube mobile app has (But Vessel has on the Web Client).

In NA, no issues.

I live in North America lol. At home Vessel works perfectly. At school where bandwidth is limited, Vessel is unwatchable while YouTube streams fine at 1080p. I've seen many similar complaints on the site.

Thats the problem to me, there is no real incentive to pay for it and the platform offers no real advantage, i dont care enough about watching a video early, since it makes no difference to the end user

and since not EVERY person I watch is on Vessel, its really more annoying just to have to go here

To be fair, there is a new incentive: 100% Ad-free videos. Vessel officially announced that a week or two ago. I know many forum users use Adblock already (I do but whitelist all LTT content), but there were still lots of "gripes" about the fact that Vessel was paid but still had ads.

I love getting LTT videos early.

Here's my issue with this post.

The videos on Vessel aren't "early" but the videos on YouTube are late.

My issue with Vessel is that it takes away getting the videos on time from Linus' proper audience on YouTube and says that the experience on YouTube is the same.

I did A-Level Physics back when it was difficult and I must say - Linus' frames of reference are fucked up, if you look at it from Vessel's frame of reference you see that the videos are before YouTube. Trouble is most of the viewerrs [Linus' community] looks at it from YouTube's frame of reference so the videos are late to virtually everyone who watches the videos and interact with Linus.

Linus is a Mug for doing this in the first palce.

I've also got to say that I'm too socialist for Vessel. I support the poor [the people who can't/don't pay for vessel] getting the same experience as the rich [the people that can/do pay for vessel]. I cannot support something that gives the rich a better experience than the poor and thus I am horrified by Linus' abhorrent attempts to split the community over a pay wall. For fuck's sake, Linus!

Nope. Vessel vids are early or "exclusive" for a period of time before they're moved to YouTube. That's why some of his reference points don't make sense because you're watching a video that was based on something that could have happened a week ago. Vessel videos being early are the same thing as YouTube vids being late. I get you think this is unfair, but Linus was doing what he thought was best for LMG, he's a prime example of Capitalism in action actually.

The last few videos I've been watching Linus get suddenly and horribly deformed by a sudden and acute case of pixelitis makes me think "Hmm, do I really want to keep my early access? Sure I get to see the videos but it's not really fair to spread this pixelitis disease among the LMG crowd"

I found vessel to be OK.

I disliked that the "click here to watch" showed a video but apparently they can't put a link over a video.

Also I am not willing to pay for watching videos early. I use LTTs amazon links and like and watch their videos on YouTube and try to support them that way, but I can't really afford paying a few bucks here and there.

Also using two different platforms for videos is kinda annoying. I have a lot if channels I follow on YouTube, but only hardware canucks and Linus are iny vessel list.... I will just let early access expire and be good with YouTube.

Don't know why, but in the entire year of having Vessel, I haven't had any major issues :/, maybe I'm just lucky or it's because where I live.

My free year is ending this month and I think I'm still going to pay for it.  $3 a month is not that much at all and I also watch a bunch of SBFP on Vessel along with LTT videos.  If vessel does crash and burn like people think is going to happen it won't affect me much, but I still kind of want them to stay around as an alternative to the monopoly that is Youtube.

id rather them just not have early access videos, I dont really care about getting them early, i will watch them anyway makes no difference to me if I watch it now, or in a week

It results in problems at times. For instance, there was a video where Linus told us about a great deal on Massdrop where there were only a few hundred units left at the time of recording the video. That means the deal might already have expired by the time it was edited and uploaded to vessel, and was definitely long gone after it hit YouTube a week later.

I don't like paying, but I like Linus and Luke enough to pay for it. And Vessel performance / quality has been quite high for me, actually.

So I paid. And I didn't whine about it.

My guess though is I am a fair bit older than most people posting here  -- and the money isn't really that much to me. So I'm okay with that. I'm ok that LMG makes money off of it. And I'm even ok with Vessel.

Just in case Groupthink in this thread threatened to overwhelm you with smug? There it is.

I don't have the energy to hate something so trivial. If I'm going to hate something, it'll be for something more important—like politics or religion. That said, I don't mind it at all. I think the site looks nice too, which is always a bonus. Better than Youtube, at least.

Probably the most ironic thing is that there are still adds on vessel. Yes they're charity ads, I dont care. Still 5 seconds I have to wait before watching my video.

not to mention the only way to get to a channel page in mobile is to find one of their videos, then tap the channel link through there

vessel: a paid subscription that still gives you ads, cant stream properly, is crap to navigate, and all with a non-sensicle comments layout.

Can you confirm this is still the case? Vessel started advertising ad-free videos as of at least 2 weeks ago.

I sometimes wonder where all the people complaining about Vessel live and how far they are from the nearest Vessel server.

I've never had any noticeable playback issues with it.

For that matter, the one time I did notice a bug (a caching issue on the home page) I reported it and exchanged emails with an actual human being and it was fixed within the day. Try doing that on YouTube.

And for me, it was never about the early access to videos. It was about not having to suffer those cringeworthy segues into sponsor spots.

People will say "I just skip them" or "I end the video there" but by the time you realize it's coming, it's too late.

I miss the days when videos didn't have to end with the tiring sponsor spots that have been all but mandatory for professional YouTubers these days. And if I can pay a few bucks to not see them, I will. Heck, $20 for a whole year of Vessel was a freaking steal!

This is all besides the point of supporting LMG for making daily content I (usually) enjoy watching.

I send them $10 a month. I use their Amazon link and have done most of my online shopping through them ever since.

Maybe it's because I'm older and have a good job that this bit of money doesn't seem like a lot.

So my condolences to all of you who have had poor experiences on Vessel. I implore you to contact their support team with as much information about your connection as possible so they can improve things.

For me, it's been a net positive experience and I will continue to get my LMG (and other) content primarily through them.
