GTX 970 at 1440p?

970 is a 1440p capable card. I would recommend a 390 though, for the 8 gigs of vram.

970 will work. The graphic setting in game though could be an issue. other than that its fine!

Actually not too shabby, by lowering 2 or 3 settings from "ultra" to "very high" allows for a solid 60fps gameplay.

At 1440p though, if you are buying a GPU I'd go r9 390.

You'd definitely have to lower settings... Generally 390x 980 and fury are 1440p cards.

it will fair fine but the 4gb (or 3.5) will be the limiting factor

you can turn down the effects

 

but really for 1440p and gpu of that price range, i would suggest the r9 390

it performs slightly better than the 970 at high resolutions

 

but get the 970 if you need nvidia's features

It does fine at 1440p, I own and use one at that res

I'd much rather have an R9 390 at 1440p, since you're always going to be pretty gpu bound at that resolution and since the R9 390 is quite a bit more powerful at a hardware level. The driver overhead is lower in the 970, which makes the 970 and 390 pretty close at 1080p. But at 1440p the 390's stronger hardware really shines through. Plus the memory subsystem is worlds better on the 390. Right now the 970's 3.5 GB of fast memory doesn't hold it back even at 1440p, but you have to think that's going to change with 8GB becoming the new higher end standard with the 390/390x there and with the new 14/16 nm gpus in this segment of the market looking like they're all going to be 8GB cards.
