Power GTX 980 with 4-molex?

I am building a hardline watercooling build in the parvum s2.0 and I have run across the issue of not having enough room to store all my cables.  I have an 80mm radiator in the back with some tubing, and I am using large cable extensions which means I have to shove all the full length psu cables behind the case as well as the extenders.  In order to free up some space, I invested in a molex splitter:

to power my pump and lighting, but I was wondering if I could also stick some of these: adapter-2x-molex-6pin.jpg

on the splitter to power my GPU (GTX 980).  If that doesn't work, I can also plug it into the remaining 3 molex connectors on the psu cable.  I was just wondering if this would be theoretically possible because that would save my bacon in terms of cable management.  (I do plan to overclock the GPU). (My powersupply is a Corsair RM1000)

Horrible idea. Molex aren't meant to power GPUs, they are for LEDs and fans

Also - OCing increases power draw by quite a bit and Molex aren't meant to deliver more than 45W IIRC

It's a really dodgy plan but will probably work. It's a big risk to take with that hardware though for the sake of cable management, especially if you're overclocking on top of that.

You could be entering wire-melting territory

generally speaking, if a power supply does not have an adequate number of pci-e 6 or 6+2 connectors, its probably not built to handle the amperage required by a high end graphic card.

Don't.

Alternative Answer - do only if your PSU can handle that load, best if it's single rail.

I need S340. But more Define S'ish

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I guess it's time to invest in a big bag of zipties. :)

his PSU is capable, the issue is the cables aren't meant for a high-end GPU.

But if it does have enough amperage, which I think it does, you can do it, I've done it before it an older PSU,  I just wouldn't recommend it on  a modern system

This solution is okay on older GPUs but for a 980...

I'd say the proper word is "cheaper" GPUs. A 780 Ti with Molex is just as bad but a 760 or 270X would be fine with molex
