It was known in advance that Hitman would be an AMD favored title. In Hitman: Absolution, the 390 was trading blows with the 980 in the 1440p resolution, and the Fury x was trading blows with the 980Ti (reference model).

 

However, the difference in the 2016 game is on the extreme side. The 390 is now trading blows with the 980Ti, the 390x has a solid lead and the fury x is running circles around it. Even with a 15-20% performance boost, which is not uncommon to achieve with an overclock, the Fury x is still faster than the 980Ti. More importantly, all of the AMD cards are achieving performance increases in DX12, whereas the Nvidia cards are in the negative 1-7% in performance.

 

You could blame the performance difference on the developer, and i would agree to a certain extent.

 

However, having played Hitman with a 980Ti, 4770k and a G-sync 144HZ monitor. The game runs fine and it looks nice. The frame rate is stable, there are no graphical glitches and the game runs well overall. If there is developer bias favoring AMD, it's not causing Nvidia any rendering issues for Nvidia.

 

When there is developer bias towards Nvidia, we get games like Batman and Gears of war: Ultimate edition. That use Nvidia proprietary software, which not only causes massive issues for the competitor in the form of unplayable frame rate, inconsistent frame rate and graphical glitches. But it also causes problems for the Nvidia users, however to a lesser extent.

IMO, I think they're in a world of hurt if Pascal doesn't have Async Compute. If Pascal doesn't have Async, might as well declare victory for AMD.

Why do people think Nvidia is screwed or going to go bankrupt. AMD doing better will only make them work faster and be cheaper so good for me! Honestly DX12 is so new once Polaris and Pascal come out then we can see who is ahead. Also their CPUs still suck

Just keeping this here as a They are not screwed. They will lose some market share to AMD for a while.

But eventually things move on and new generations of hardware are released... They may lose a couple battles but this Nvidia-AMD war is going to continue for the foreseeable future.

They aren't screwed since Pascal's coming to go toe-to-toe with AMD's Polaris. As of now, the only one's who're screwed are the guys who've been shammed by Nvidia for thinking that the 900 series, atleast the top tier ones, are DX12 ready.

So... you're asking for basically a near equivalent of the gaming crash of 83? The last thing we need is another thing to contribute to oversaturation. I'm not saying we should only be limited to Nvidia and AMD for gaming, but sure as hell I don't want to see even 5 companies fighting each other to see who's selling the best performing GPU's on the market.

When there is developer bias towards Nvidia, we get games like Batman and Gears of war: Ultimate edition. That use Nvidia proprietary software, which not only causes massive issues for the competitor in the form of unplayable frame rate, inconsistent frame rate and graphical glitches. But it also causes problems for the Nvidia users, however to a lesser extent.

Video game's been around since the 50's for goodness sakes. The problem with introducing more competitors is that they'll just end up flooding the market once there's just too many of them.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. How? PC as a platform for gaming alone is competing against consoles as well. And guess what? We can bring up as many console vs pc debates, but fact of the matter is that there's still a shitton of console gamers. So, you think adding in another company competing in the GPU market is a good idea? First off, who can afford to even compete against AMD, who's pretty much been at the shit-end of the stick in their war against Nvidia for a fairly long time? They're winning now, but lets be realistic. Nvidia's gonna pull something out of their ass and do something about it. And yeah, don't compare AMD to Atari. Atari destroyed themselves and couldn't recover for shit, while AMD atleast tried to keep itself together after purchasing ATI.

Nvidia and Intel are not in any danger.

Over the next year AMD is expected to gain market share in both GPUs and CPUs, but Nvidia and Intel will continue to be hugely profitable.

I think they might gain some in gpus but i don't think the cpu market will change much unless we see something like an 8 core with haswell ipc at the price of an 8350.

Honestly I don't care, to each their own much like with consoles. Sure one brand or one system might be better or worse than one or the other but as long as the consumer is happy with their selection that's mostly what matters.

 

I sort of don't want to make this political but like with Democrats and Republicans this one or the other or black and white or so on and so fourth is quite stupid why can't people find something in common and bring that together.

I think that's why I like Bernie Sanders' idea on bringing people together and why I like the Android slogan of being together but not the same. Honestly that would prevent a lot of real wars or internet flame wars. 

 

Sure maybe AMD is showing better in early DX12 testing and that's great I personally like AMD's GPUs and plan on using one in my upcoming build but it's not like I wouldn't shy away from using an Nvidia GPUs if I felt like that's something I wanted in my build, but I like some of what AMD's OEMs have right now for cards especially Sapphire and their Nitro cards.

 

I think it's totally possible for Nvidia to optimize their next generation of cards for DX12 but there are only a few games that only supports it and a bunch of other things that I don't want to go into because this is already a long post and very opinionated.

When I say they will 'gain market share' I do not mean that they will go head to head with Intel.

I simply meant they will move more units than what they are doing at the moment, which is not difficult considering their current situation.

A huge contributor to that crash was that game companies were being taken over by people who did not understand video games, but saw that it was a profitable up and coming industry. People like tend to like lots of money in the short term and don't look to the future, so quantity took priority over quality. The people who jumped on those games and consoles obviously were not lasting customers because it was just a fad to them and they just moved on to the next best thing after (the Wii is the closest thing to that which happened recently). By the time anyone realized, the damage had been done.

I disagree. I would like more companies to compete. However, I know that's not possible, at least at the moment, since anyone coming in would not be able to complete the monumental task of having backwards compatibility on PC. They would likely have to start in the console space 1st.

I think people are failing to realize DX12 isn't even really a thing yet, we have like 2 games and like 2 benchmarks that support it, even though people have been hyping it for what.. Almost 3 years now?

 

Nvidia has WAY more market share, and WAY more money to spend on R&D, why on earth does everyone think they don't know this stuff is coming up, and have plans for it?  Trust me, I'm 99% sure they already have it all planned and figured out, and are more than ready for it.  They surely wouldn't want to lose any market share.

well the worldwide car market is big enough for loads of companies to co-exist and many of them can find their nice little niche and be profitable and afford R&D.

 

just asking- do you think the discrete GPU market is big enough for 20 companies to put out competitive products and be profitable and spend money on R&D etc...
