wait for the next gen releases as DX12 is a bit new yet to be saying either company is screwed.  Thing is AMD has a minor budget  for research compared to the Nvidia  counterpart so  I predict AMD will be faster at first then Nvidia  jams out a card  that blows it out of the water shattering its dreams,, like normal, it always happens that way.

 

And Im not a Nvidia fan boy I have seen this happen over and over between them,,, back to the ATI Rage 3D,  then Nvidia comes around the corner with The Geforce 256.  its been happening like that since.

That isn't relevant.  If you look at actual feature size between tsmc 16nm and samsung/glofo 14nm, they are almost identical. 

 

Nm isn't anything.  If you look at the specs,  for example,  you see that intel 14nm is very superior to samsung or glofos process. 

There isn't actually any structure 14nm in size in a "14 nm transistor". 

 

What for example,  tsmc's first gen 16nm was very close to intels 22nm process.  

Process size isn't very relevant when comparing nodes. Here is intel 14nm specs for reference

Wait for both Polaris and Pascal to fully release then decide based on benchmarks. Heck probably even snag a cheapo 980 Ti or Fury X by then, who knows how well they do when lots of games are dx 12 in 2-3 years.

From  what ive seen its more like 

Nvidia *80 card

Amd top tier beats that

Nvidia *80ti/titan beatsthat

After a lengthy driver optimization process and about a year or two,  the amd card comes out on top. 

 

Just look at 7970 vs 680 and 290x vs 780ti. In most benchmarks today,  both amd cards win by a pretty good amount.  At release however,  it was quite the opposite.

In all these years I only had Nvidia gpu's, only once I bought an ATI when I needed triple screen support and the 580 I had wasn't able to. I bought a 7970 since it was cheaper and offered somewhat the same performance than the 680. 

 

But I had troubles in game , small artifacts (not gpu distortion), distant textures flickering etc. I read on the game forums and other people were complaining about it, said to roll back to 3 driver versions earlier and that worked better for this game but in another game I had other issues or worse fps. I returned the card to the store and got a different 7970 but the same story, eventually paid extra for the 680 and all these issues were instantly resolved, latest drivers always gave some better performance.

 

I don't have anything against ATI and don't know if their drivers recently got better but that wasn't an experience to boost confidence in the company.

How long do you think it'll take for MOST games to utilize DX12? A while. The most that I see are EA's games like the Battlefield series or the NFS series. This does not all of a sudden change the current games that exist where the majority will be using DX9/DX11. Quite frankly, in my opinion, NVIDIA have a lot of time to work on DX12 before it actually becomes mainstream, whether it's through driver updates, or architectural updates. In regards to the 8370 vs 6700K, I would still not buy an 8370 over a 6700K for the above reasons, and it also DEPENDS on the game itself. Ashes of the Singularity is a multi-threaded game, and is CPU intensive. What about games that support only 4 threads? I bet even some DX12 games will only support 1-4 threads because that's all they would need.

 

Regardless, please stop this nonsense that they're both screwed. They're both doing fine.
