What do people use for Website Creation?

Question^ . Also, I'm not talking about Square Space. I'm talking about ...do people still use Dreamweaver or whatever else is out there?

Curious as to what the standard is nowadays.

Sounds like a next-level complexity. It's like when I was a kid writing HTML on Notepad. Felt painful and I didn't know what I was doing haha.

I use Sublime Text to write the code and my server with NGINX (website), write the CSS, HTML, some JS and PHP (mySQL too).

When I'm tired I'll download a website theme and just edit the HTML inside it (very easy).

Sure, Notepad++ isn't an easy to use WSIWYG editor but it is far better then regular notepad. There are also a lot of plugins for different coding languages available to help with development.

I thought the opposite. Most pros stay away from dreamweaver. Well at the very least i doubt you'd see anyone from a relatively modern company/startup use it.

i use notepad ++, or just a .txt file lol, not that good but i enjoy it

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

its a very pointless program in my eyes, its the software equivalent of Weebly but without the website branding! and yes not many people use it these days.

You are correct. Dreamweaver is a bloated P.O.S. that no one professional uses anymore. It's decent for beginners because it does have some tools that make some things easier, but overall it's performance is terrible.

I did Web-Dev for a while as my full-time, and still do it as a freelancer on the side. Personally I've come to find the I really like JetBrains PHPStorm as an IDE, it's HTML, CSS, Javascript, MySQL functionality is great too even though 'PHP' is in the name.

I use Visual Studio anytime I need to do anything in VB.NET/C#/ASP

A lot of people still really like using Eclipse too.

All of these languages.... Thanks for the input guys but if I were to begin programming (not just web design to begin with), where should I begin? Someone told me HTML..another told me Java...someone else told me Python but Python actually looks really simple.

i learnt python then php and i loved the php side of things so i decided to do web based coding. I sometimes use python. but i plan to learn C# when i get time. My advice learn the language that you believe you will enjoy the most, and that you will get th results you want out of it

HTML isn't a programming language, but for a first language something like Java/C# is good. then branch out onto c++ and javascript /Node.JS/ECMAScript (for modern web stuff) once you have got to grips with the syntax. That will cover most ground for modern stuff, but you would be missing out on a few others which are a bit different like php/python.

I would prefer using C# over Java personally. they are both similar, but i found C# a lot "nicer" to work with, especially with visual studio over something like Eclipse :S which is plain horrible. Although C# is limited to windows.

Do Java, then C# then C++.

If you understand Java then C# should be relatively easy.

But it's still important IMO.

I have no clue LOL. What is HTML then?

I will try again at Java/C#...and see what I can get from results before I begin...just to peak my interests I guess.

I don't know much about Macs ...so C# is considerable!

It's a markup language ;) You dont write algorithms and stuff with HTML, it's used for defining a layout.

(Javascript is a scripting language and not a programming language too)

The difference is that scripting languages don't need to be compiled. They just run directly in another piece of software (such as the browser)

Well java or C# first. it doesn't really matter. But if I had to learn programming from scratch I would learn Java first then C# then C++.

I like C# cos it's a lot more "kind" to the programmers than Java. And it's more Object Orientated.

And you get to make all kinds of programs and apps. From WPF apps to Windows Form programs to Universal Windows apps.

Java runs on a Virtual Machine called "JVM".  C# is native to Windows. This makes C# also much faster.

I would learn Java first because it will be less frustrating than if you do it the other way around and do C# then java.

Ah so that's the difference between Java and Javascript. I was looking before and was like...what...

I can't seem to focus on learning Java when I first tried it. Some of the examples felt very basic. I know its needed but felt tedious. I don't know how exactly I'll get through it hahaha. I have to learn it.

I'm learning it as part a computer science course I'm doing, and I'm learning java on a site called udemy. It's quite a good tutorial series.

A tip I have is to practice programming, little and often. So maybe 15 minutes every day or 30 minutes every other day. Just to keep retaining and building the knowledge cos after all you are learning a language.

And I would recommend typing whatever the author tells you to do but then also play around with it.

I recommend it :) and It's free.

Yeah. Other than the name, Java and JavaScript have little in common.
