For a i7 the 390 is the better bet.

the R9 390 is silghtly better but i dont know what to say about it, i know barely anything because i picked up a G1 970 that i overclocked a bunch instead xD i love some of the NVIDIA features like Gforce Experience(when its not lagging to shit and failing to install drivers) and shadow play would be good for recording. if i was to recomend a 970 it would have to be either the Gigabyte G1 GTX970 Gaming or the MIS GTX970 Turbo, the Turbo looks amazing and the G1 is a great overclocker, i would sugest gettig a 390 tho because of the extra preformance and RAM

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What games do you plan on playing? Gameworks ports? get the 970. if not, get the 390.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

It depends on what games you are going to play and at what resolution.  For 1080p, I would say the gtx970.  But if you're going for 1440p or 4k then go with a 390 or r9 390x. Side note the 390/x produces a lot more heat.

another question... which is better for overclocking in this build http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vZfPMp

970, hands down. But you'll have to overclock a 970 to see it's potential whereas the 390 is great right out of the box. Both overclock? Depends on your luck.

The 390 you've selected is the best 390 on the market. Will probably hit 1150-1200MHz. The average 390 OC is 1180. A 970 will usually get a higher OC but MHz are not equal. 1MHz on the 390 equals 1.5MHz on the 970 more or less

What is the better overall card for gaming and recording, whatever card you suggest tell me why and pick me the best made version of that card.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/vZfPMp - This will be the build that the card is going in

The 390 is a better overall card, but if you are interested in recording and Shadowplay seems appealing to you, pick the 970, they tend to trade blows depending on the game.

Depends on the driver at the moment, but you'll maintain 60fps which is the goal.

But not for the games coming out now, for those you need something better, so expect to sacrifice settings.
