970 sli or 980ti

Go to solution Solved by Praesi,

980ti. Single GPU is better.

Good morning. Currently I use a 1080p 144hz monitor. I can get sli 970 for $598 or a single 980ti for $576. Both brands are evga. Possibility of jumping to a 1440p res soon. What is the better value between the two?

970 sli is sliiiiightly faster assuming everything works and you don't run out of VRAM.

But looking at recent trends you need more VRAM. Get 980Ti.

It seems as though the community is pretty divided on this one.

SLI can cause trouble or isn't even supported, only under perfect conditions the GTX 970 SLI would be 'better' than the 980ti itself, two gtx 970 cost more Power (maybe another PSU) and 2 cards more needed space (less air flow) ....

I think the GTX 980 ti is better in nearly every condition

It is always better to get a single, more powerful gpu, than two weaker gpus.

980 Ti easily. Cheaper, less power draw, no issues with SLI scaling, more VRAM for if you like to mod games heavily, and the 970 SLI usually only wins in synthetics like Firestrike; otherwise in well optimized games the 970 SLI and 980 Ti perform pretty much the same.

Thanks everyone, the answer is clear.

Have Fun. The 980ti will slaughter games at 1080p without mercy ?

Not always. It was the right move before the 980 Ti when everyone was buying 970 SLI instead of a single 980.
