Why Does the new Gigabyte X99 board have a Display port?

Hi,

 

So I was browsing through motherboards and noticed that the new Gigabyte SLI x99 board has a DisplayPort but x99 cpu's don't have a igpu so why does it have this?

 

Just interested for the reason lol

Oh I didn't see that in the spec sheet but maybe I thought maybe it has a capture card or something built on board but the board is way to cheap to have something like that maybe it is just a low powered gpu or something still a very interesting choice from gigabyte

Did research, don't think that picture is of the Motherboard's IO.

DP input. Not at all sure what that could be used for.

that's insane, intel X chipset series don't have a bult-in igpu, that's impossible

That's why i'm so confused by it. There website says something about feature upgrade but that doesn't explain what it does so confused lol

in this case though it just seems pointless  and if gigabyte are trying to sell this as a feature then they need to make clear what feature upgrade means lol

I assume it's for an on board capture card. That's the only thing that it would make sense for. Also, because Gigabyte includes appropriate cables to plug your GPU into the board as you can see here

Quite possibly.

Scanning the motherboard for any video capture related controllers / chips...

if it were on a z170 or z97 those type of boards I would have dismissed it as that's normal but for x99 it caught my attention lol.

It's a passthrough for the USB 3.1 Type C port to allow DisplayPort alt mode.
