How to remove a background - Photoshop CC

So I was trying to remove a background for a picture and used a combo of eraser and magic eraser. This worked for the majority of it but then This happened.

Any tutorial on how to do this more cleanly?

Other than going around and slowly removing all of the remaining white bits, not really

Are you using the magic wand tool? go into it's settings (up on the top) and make the level or tolerance higher, so it will choose that white near the hair.

I am not 100% sure how to make it so it will be transparent though.

Use the magnetic lasso tool of it works, and if not, then the normal lasso tool, and outline the thing that you don't want cut out, and then you should be able to use the eraser to get rid of all of the things that you do not have selected

on the original image use the magic wand tool to select the background, make sure its set to anti-alias and contiguous
then just experiment to see what value (1-255) will select what you want, then hit delete

If the background is 1 colour only, you can use select --> colour range and then fiddle around there, and eventually it should select the background.

If not, use the pen- or- lassotool.
