SanDisk for SSDs by a long way. If I hadn't had so many non-SSD Samsung failures, I'd give them a shot.

Most hard drives are interchangeable, my PCs have mixes of Seagate, WD, Toshibas and Hitachis. Anything but Samsung basically.

Samsung for SSD and WD for HDDs. Never had an issue for either brand.

Currently have an 850 EVO and WD Black. No complaints about the 850 EVO and the Black is super fast, if slightly loud.

My first ever SSD is Kingston and it's solid so far, so there's that. HDDs Western Digital all day every day, had only good experiences so far.

My modded Air 540 build

Spoiler

Same here cloned my Dell 1TB OS to a Samsung 850 Evo 1TB. 4TB Black WD for my Steam/Origin/Blizzard Library. and a WD My Book 4TB External.

HDD: WD or HGST

SSD: Sandisk is my fave. I've used Crucial, Plextor, and Samsung (Well aside the 840 series) with success as well.

Drive History:

Two 1TB WD Blacks, only one has died so far (after 7 years).

One 2TB WD Black (Still alive / just fine after 6 years).

One 3TB WD Red (Still alive / 4 years)

Six 4TB WD Reds (Still alive / 3 years)

Two 4TB WD Re (Still alive / 1 year)

SSD History:

Plextor 256GB M2P (Still alive / 5 years)

Sandisk Extreme 2 480GB (Still alive / 3 years)

Sandisk Extreme Pro 240GB (Still alive / 1 year)

I've always used Intel SSD's and Western Digital hard drives, although Hitachi isn't that bad either

Shipping sucks
