Lol. The GTX 970 will run everything on ultra with 60+ FPS. If you're on low budget try to get the Intel Core i5 4460/6400. If you have a bigger budget then you should consider the Intel Core i5 4690K/6600K

wat?

WAT?

to run what on 30-50 fps??

you could easy check your cpu with the device manager or right click "your computer" to see system specs

970 should be fine with new/old games at 30-50fps with your desired low/med settings

How can you tell how the 970 will run a game not coming out for probably 1-3 years?

I don't think people have realised this is the star citizen sub topic.

Star citizen leverages the cpu quite a lot so it would be more useful if you were able to let us know that.

The Universe currently has server bottlenecks still so that will probably be around 20 - 30fps on a 970.

Arena commander isn't too bad with optimisation but when there are a lot of players then all systems tend to chug a little bit so probably anywhere from 20 - 60 fps in arena commander. My setup normally gives me about 30fps in large games of arena commander. I hope this helps :)

Where did I say that the GTX 970 will run any game at 60+ FPS for 3 or more years? I said the GTX 970 can run almost* any game at 60+ FPS. Not for 3+ years.

Are you talking about Star Citizen Pre-Alpha modes of the full release?

I'm talking about all games in general.

The Universe currently has server bottlenecks still so that will probably be around 20 - 30fps on a 970.

Then again, It's not the problem of the GPU but of the game servers.

Yes but you are in the Star Citizen subforum so being general wont help and the 970 won't run a perfect 60 fps but it is playable, this is because as soon as we see an optimisation a new update/ship comes out and we are back to square one. The "Universe" is more server side slowdown where as Arena Commander is more cpu and graphics heavy as it isn't relient on the server.

How can you tell how the 970 will run a game not coming out for probably 1-3 years?

Because the game is playable now but not complete.

-snip-

Funny.

Have you played it recently? As of the latest patch (Alpha 2.1), the game itself is very stable FPS wise and the crashes have become significantly less. It has come a long way and shows promising results.

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

Right now the Crusader mini-PU module is pretty laggy for everyone, but depending on how Star Citizen matures you should be able to run at very high settings at 1080p - maybe only high settings if you want a really stable 60fps, but 1440p @ high would also get pretty good FPS.
