What are the Extra Pins for?

Hi guys,

 

Been looking at motherboards to replace my faulty x99 motherboard and noticed a lot of the Asus boards and a few of the high end boards from MSI have extra pins which they call their OC socket.

 

What do these pins actually do are they needed or worth having and I assume the cpu's have more than 2011 pins to contact with these pins?

They help with overclocking because it can deliver more power to the cpu.

New 2011-3 CPU's have more than 2011 cotacts, the OC socket provides more and more stable power

 

So is it better to get a board with the extra pins?

It was just a forum post I posted asking some other people about it http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?p=890668#post890668 Tom just happened to reply.
