My First Drive is a 128GB vertex 4 for boot because i wanted to have speed at a good price for games and this ssd was on a 72 hour sale i couldnt pass up on. i run all my games that i can which isnt much(SC2, CSGO, some source games, and BF3 which takes a ton!!)

My second and third drive are old sata 2 160GB HDDS one 5400 and the other 7200 in raid 1 to store all my family photos id hate to lose. one 5400 drive failed so i got me a handmedown 7200 from a friend.

i also have a WD 320GB External usb 2.0 hdd for my movies/backups/applications/xboxsaves/ps3saves/school stuff in FAT32 which i lost my data once maybe due to using FAT32 lol. I would have some decent HDDs but im a student getting by xD

My main rig has  2x 120gb samsung 840 120gb seed (caught a good sale) in raid 0 for os and  a 500gb Velociraptor for my steam games(becuase its fast). My media center has an 2tb western digital green drive for my recorded tv shows from my ceton ifinitv card.Everything is backed up by my windows home server(sandy bridge celeron whs 2011) which has 6 wd red 2tb hard drives in raid 5 (approx 10 tb , 9tb ish formatted)to backup my computers(saved my bacon already) and I am converting(um making a personal backup) my movie collection(really just for personal use and only stuff I own) and archiving my favorite recorded tv programs.Becuase I like to keep the quality as close to the original as possible(including the large hd sound tracks) this eats a ton of storage.I already need to start considering adding wd red 4tb to the setup.I choose red becuase its designed to run in a raid and run 24/7,it gives me peice of mind and  I can use the warrenty on them(wd considers using greens, blues and blacks in a server and or raid not normal operating conditions)Ive never heard of this being a problem but I feel better using something thats rated for the task

I am having a Macbook Pro 2012 model and have replaced the optical drive with a chasy case for secondary Drive. I have a 250Gb Plextor M5S SSD cause its both cheap and gives good performance. I wanted to buy Plextor M5S pro, but it was out of my budget. For the Mass storage HDD, I had no money as I upgraded my Ram, so I left the pre-installed 500gb HDD from Apple. I have two WD External Passport Essential drives, 1TB and 700Gb for my other stuff and backups.

I would love to win this 4TB WD Red Drive so that I can replace my pre-installed Apple HDD with it.

hi linus , i recently bought a gaming-ish laptop(yeah i dont have a desktop) it's a lenovo g400s......well i am new to computers, so i dont really know where to look for my storage system spec, but i know i have 1 tb of hard disk space with around 24gb of sdd memory well the reason why i bought my laptop is cuz of the value for the money thing, plus its for autocad designing (still dont know how to work the program).............well since i didnt upgrade anything, i am guessing that lenovo is running this disk drivehybrid crossover setup (thats what some people call it)is due to 'the best of both worlds' thing sdd and mass storage working togather .....well thats all i can think of , also in under 2 weeks i downloaded soo many games that my 900+gb dropped to 500gb, (this is new to me) .......i hope i win the 4tb harddisk ,although i dont know how will i make it work xD

i found my hard disk but it doesnt tell me what my sdd is though............ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB thats my hard disk name ,sry for not giving more information linus , i would if i could dig out somemore info regarding my lenovo g400s stock setup

So I have a pc which is 2 years old now. It has 2gb ram and only 165gb Hard drive. You know being a 14 year-old teen, watching youtube videos has always inspired me to have my own channel and do the same especially in gaming. As I said I only have a 165gb hard drive and no backups at all. I use my computer mainly for gaming purposes but it can rarely boot up so smoothly because of all the games I have in it and especially my videos in my hard drive (League of Legends videos recorded with fraps, so yeah gigantic space) I wanted this thing cause it can really conserve my pc hard drive space and also I can put other files in here so I have kind of a backup external drive. And also I'm considering it as a gift to me. :)) LOL It's my birthday on 14th September so I'm really really looking forward to this. :))

Im using an intel 520 series SSD for my OS and frequently used programs. A 750 GB WD Caviar Green for my games and general programs hard drives and a 1TB WD Caviar Black for all my data, files, media etc.

I use the SSD  for better performance and boot times. And the rest of the drives as normal storage really in order to minimize write executions on the SSD.

I'm currently only using a 1TB WD Caviar Black for video games/music and a lot of digital artwork and 2 Seagate External HDD's that I keep as back ups but they're full already.

These files always end up being very big and these paintings take a very long time to complete(around 6 to 15+ hours)

I still get worried that my Seagate HDD's will brick somehow(one of them stopped working once already D: scared the crap out of me)

So here are my setups:

For my asus G73 laptop:

I use a 180gb ocz vertex 2 (os drive)(in my now discarded odd bay) because my laptop max out at sata 2 anyway and I just wanted a faster overall performance.

Then I have 2 500gb seagate drives that were included in the laptop. because well they re included in the laptop. I use one for program, the other for important data.

Otherwise I use a 1tb 2.5'' usb3.0 hdd for games.

For my gaming desktop I use a 180gb intel 330 ssd for os, cauz once you go ssd, you don t go back...

and a 3tb seagate hdd for everything else. (it was cheaper than a raid setup).

For my less used desktop that I can almost call a nas (only used to browse internet and store files). I use 4 seagate 500gb hdds in raid 1 to save important pictures and all because raid 1 is safer and i don t trust those drives that much hence why 4 drive raid 1...

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.

1. My desktop runs on a 1tb Samsung Spinpoint F3, which at the time of purchase -according to reviews I was reading all around- was the best thing on the market at that specific category. A bit later came an external 1T WD Elements which I have on the side, plugged in every now and then for backup purposes. Also an internal 250mb WD from ages ago has been converted to external, giving a helping hand to my 5yo laptop which generally lacks storage with today's standards/needs. All are used for both work stuff and entertainment stuff. Alas, since the storage is not that big, most of the entertainment stuff -basically movies/series- end up in the recycle bin, and a few of them -favs- get on permanent storage, a.k.a. burned on dvds lol.

I edit a lot of video, so my current setup is:

-Intel 520 120Gb SSD as a boot drive for OS, programs and video cache files

-WD 1TB Caviar black as my main editing drive where I store most of my video files

-WD 640Gb Caviar black. I use this drive to export rendered videos and projects, so the programs read from one drive and write to another.

-Seagate 1Tb storage drive, for pictures, movies and music.

-WD 1TB caviar green in an external enclosure for backing up the video files.

No RAID for now, maybe in the future...

I have a Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Sata III Drive and an external Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1 TB USB 3.0 as backup drive and file sharing device. I got it because a friend recommended it to me as he used it for years with no flaws and of course it was cheap.

1. My almost 4 year old Corsair 120Gb Force Series boot/Install drive finally gave out, taking with him around 60% of my 5/6 year old pc performance and a small but fair amount of data that I had not backed up. My surviving drive is my storage drive, a WD 1Tb from about 4/5 years.

In the next weeks I’m finally buying a new computer, and because I didn’t know I was going to get these NAS drives, I was going to run 2x Samsung 840 Pro 256Gb for boot/programs/games (like BF4), and 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB for storage, mainly HD content and some backups. I'll probably end up running the SSD in raid 1 due to my recent trauma, and the fact that I just game and watch HD content but... part of me just itches for raid 0 because... well because I can.

Chose the Samsung because it seems that it’s one of the safe and best bets (safer…) because all components are in house made, comes along with good software…and it doesn’t hurt to know that they are FAST and consistent... and have 5 year warranty. This was the general idea i got with my "research" mainly from www.storagereview.com www.guru3d.com and Linus obviously.

Chose the Seagate because, though they will be used for mass storage, no critical data will be stored in them, so I’m not too worried about skimping a little on them (cheaper than WD counterpart for instance) in order to push further on another component. Which is not to say that these drives are bad! With this, I was hoping to get top performance with some measure of security.

5ish. On a side note. It’s interesting that you are offering WD Red’s since I’m getting an Asus MVI Formula, Corsair Vengenace Pro Red, red lighting and sleeving, and, if they don’t take long to arrive and are worth it, an AMD 9000Series. I appreciate symmetry in my life. I welcome these drive into my life.  :D

running off of an external hard drive ( case ripped out forgot the model name but its a WD ) 300GB 5400 RPM

i wish i had more room :L

( and the money lol )

the reason why I'm running this is because I didn't know that I would have or need a lot of room but since the steam summer sale it's been hectic for my hard drive

1. In my system I'm running a 120GB SSD from Sandisk for boot, got it pretty cheap and a Seagate barracuda 500GB for games, obtained it from my sister. I have the WD MyBook world edition II 2TB NAS which was on sale awhile ago, i needed an easy and serviceable NAS to store movies and shows to share with 5 users. I also have an extra 1TB WD Elements external drive attach to the NAS via usb 2.0 so i have 3TBs total shared in my network. I was satisfied with my storage but till recently its 96% filled. So im hoping i will win a drive to go into my system and share it in the network.

My rig components consist of 1TB solid stage hybrid 2.5 internal drive, 3TB Western Digital Green, 2TB Seagate Barracuda, AMD Radeon 6870 and i7 3770k. My operating system is stationed in my 1TB hybrid. I didn't choose a solid state drive because of how expensive they are. I choose capacity over speed. If I were ever to get a SSD, it'll have to be 500GB and up, thus are most costly. So I have to postpone. This is just a temporary setup. I might just get a 10000rpm 1TB or a real SSD for my OS drive. Preparing to clone drives in the future. I choose the hybrid drive to try something new. At the time it looked very interesting. Now that I think about it... It was you Linus who encouraged me to buy it. You did a review on it! As you see, my current setup is sacrificing speed for more capacity. Which is perfectly fine with me, but without a doubt welcoming speed. So a new drive is always welcomed, hence I have a full tower. I use the 3TB for my gaming collection, 2TB for video & software collection and 1TB for OS, pending items, pictures and everything else.

In my system i run a 240 GB kingston ssd and an old as the hills WD 250 GB dive, the reason i run this setup is basically i ran out of money when building my system, my old WD is basically a backup for my SSD and storage for my games, but something tells me the old girl is going to die soon as its starting to make a lot of noise, and as i don't really trust my SSD for all my pictures games etc, i now have everything from my 250 GB WD backed up to my Mums, believe it or not, 1TB external usb2.0 drive, that i don't always have access to as it is her drive... I would love to buy myself a new storage drive, but when my system was built to its current state my fiance and i found out we have a baby on the way, so all our money is going to the first new member of the family and our wedding...

And then you realize your shoes are filled with peanut butter, what then?! >:L

right now I've only got a 1TB western digital black harddrive and it's filling up quick, with all my steam games and other stuff. I've also got an external hard drive that's 500GB's which is a VM that I use for gaming on the go with a copy of VMware on it to be able to quickly install it and play my games on practically any computer, it's useful for when I go to university and use their computers to play my games, they can't track the processes of a vmware so I don't get caught.

The first drive I got for my configuration was a 500GB WD Black 64MB because I was running out of money for my gaming PC and I needed a fast drive.

Then recently I've added a 250GB 64MB Velociraptor and a 1TB Blue 64MB, the velociraptor for my Windows 8 for the speed and the Blue is for storage.

So in summary:

250GB Velociraptor: Fast and agressive, I actually enjoy the sound of intense reads on startup lol. So it's my OS drive.

500GB Black: First drive, cheap and fast... Now it stores all my Steam/Origin/Uplay games.

1TB Blue: Used as storage, simply because it's very affordable and I needed the space.

My OCD also forces me to use this configuration as it follows increasing size to decreasing performance :) as well as same brand with different colours.
