1. I run a 120gb 840 Samsung ssd because it was cheap and it's a great drive for the price. For storage I up until recently had a WD 500gb for media and a Seagate 360gb for games. I used these because I had them laying around when I built my pc this spring.

But I just got 2 2tb Seagate drives witch i put in my old pc to make an Ubuntu server. I choose these because they were on sale and I want a server/nas to be able to access my files from anywhere, anytime. The 2 drives are in RAID 1 for security.

Well basically right now In my rig I have two 128gb OCZ vertex 4s running in raid 0.

Reason is I got them at a discounted price and after the v1.5 firmware update it seemed like a great performing SSD.

Why am I running raid 0? Mostly because my board only supports Sata 2 ports and i really wanted a Sata 3 speed without an upgrade.

Right now my main drive is basically busy failing, It's difficult to access it so I've had to move everything onto a 1tb external.

I also have my own personal cloud, I bought a synology NAS enclosure and connected that to my router. Unfortunately out of the two bays that I have, I only have an old 500gb seagate and

it is not enough for my storage needs.

So yeah, I really need some WD reds to throw into it :3

I have a refurbished Dell Precision 690 with a 70GB Fujitsu 10k SAS. I got a Kingston SSD Now 60GB and made it my OS/boot drive. A good affordable solution. I download programs and save documents in the Fujitsu.
I then added a 3/4TB Seagate, 7200 RPM for the media and large downloads, backup, system images, etc...
Finally I added another Kingston 15GB for L2 Caching.
L1 caching would be RAM, assigning 2 gigs out of my 8 for this purpose using PrimoCache.
I also use a 1/2 TB WD USB3 for mobile backup and large files transfer.

I look forward to excahnging my Seagate with the
WD Red! It will give me  more security in saving system images, more system restore points, backups, and less burning of iso to DVD!

1. I am running a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD for my boot drive because I am a speed freak. For storage I am running a 5 year old WD Green 1TB that works like a charm but is not nearly enough big for me anymore. I don't like NASs but I would love some WD Red drives to use in a raid and set up my old pc as a home storage and backup server. Thumbs up to WD for always providing Linus Tech Tips with great products to give away!

great giveaway!

I am using a WD blue 640 gb drive, i have a very old and cheap computer, and for evryday use it's okay, i use it mainly for internet so bootup time is good.

in adition to that i have 2 external hard drives one from wd (500gb) and one from samsung (1TB) they are all contcted to my brothers'pc and i acses them via networ.

I also have a home server (small project) it's yust a simple computer with 2 HDD configured in JBOD. the only thing i would change is the slow conection in my home network sinse i don't have gigabit it's slow.

I am also using dropbox to only backup my most important data, and phone data.

Im currently running:

1 x 128gb Sandisk Ultra SSD

2 x 2tb WD Green Drives in Raid 1

1 x 500gb Toshiba External Drive

I chose this set up for a number of reasons:

- I chose the ssd to use as a boot drive and storing commonly used programmes

- I chose the 2tb drives as I needed more than 1tb for my general storage but also needed some data redundancy

- My old external drive just stores my most important data that I store but hardly ever access ( old photos, family videos etc)

I've been thinking of setting up some NAS for a while but can't really afford it at the moment. Would love to run a Raid 1 or 5 NAS and be able to use my 2 x 2tb WD Greens all for storage in my rig giving me 4tb instead of 2tb.

I don't have a home server, so all i have is in my rig!

Currently running a 128gb Crucial M4 as my boot drive & for some games with long loading times :)

For storage though i have a Seagate Barracuda 2TB, i had a tight budget at the time and they offered superb GB/dollar, i could pick up a single 2TB Barracuda for a 1TB WD Red(Lol with the giveaway :P) so yeah, budget constraint! Probably should have went for 2 x 1TB Barracudas to RAID0 them for better speeds.

I also have a small 500GB external USB3.0 drive for bringing my games/movies around.

1. atm im using an intel 330 256gb SSD and a 1tb storage drive from WD. I picked up my ssd cause it was cheap at the time (around $100) and intel SSD's are always great performers with good warranties/lifetime so it was easily a no brainer. The storage drive is from my last pc to save me some cash on this one but I've quickly run out of storage and have been looking at getting another one to add to it. Using my SSD for some slow loading games and windows and the 1tb for everything else.

I have a laptop and not a desktop so I have a 500gb seagate harddrive in it. I don't store much of anything on it at all except for my windows os and games so i figured 500 gb would suffice. I am a HUGE fan of anime so i have 2 1 terrabyte hard drives usb 3.0. 1 is WD the other one is seagate. I opted to have an external hard drive because my internet speed is VERY VERY slow. What I do to get my anime is that I just copy it from my friends laptop to my hd since he always has what i want. Usb 3.0 really helped out a lot because it really made transferring huge 1080p and 720p video files so much faster.

I use a 1tb Hard drive for my desktop. I brought it because it was all I could afford and also my last hard drive had just failed. I got this drive as hopefully a temporary drive as I sometime run my computer for very long hour's but my hard drive isn't optimal for running that long. I also have a 200gb 5400rpm laptop hard drive I replaced my sister's old laptop hard drive and kept it just for the extra space. I had a 500gb western digital external green drive but mine's failed on me.

I'm rocking a OCZ-VERTEX X4, 128GB, got it got it from black friday i believe it was about 120 bucks, good SSD, for a good price, been loving it ever since, it's in my old ACER ASPIRE 5745PG so it gets the job done, but since im mainly a gamer and i like to watch, movies, anime, etc. i dont have a lot of space to work with T_T, also i'm saving money to make a nice gaming pc :), and these with these harddrives and  a SSD to boot it will be godly!!!!.

I am using WD Caviar Green 1 TB.

I've got it because it was fairly cheap, provides a lot of space and an average file transfer (which I didn't need to have any better), plus a man at the shop suggested me to get either that or some 0,5TB with higher transfer rate.

I have:

a Crucial M4 128gb SSD (OS/Games)

a WD Black 320gb HDD (Docs/usr data/ etc.)

I also have two external HDDS:

a 1TB My Book I got back when 1TB first showed up. (around 2007 iirc)

and a 1TB My Passport Essential my brother got me last year.

Both are almost full at 10.3GB/17.1GB free of each.

Now here's why:

...

hmmm....

well I got the SSD because I wanted the speed, I'm a pretty unpatient person :P

and the 320gb black was there when I got the PC.

and the two external drives are for my media/mass storage, tbh I didn't prefer WD over Seagate but the price was about right and seagate drives are hardly available over here.

I only run a single 2TB WD Green drive and it is slow. Only pick them up because of the budget limit. I do believe more is better for storage.

I'm currently running my OS and some games of a Corsair 120GB SSD (only SATA2 though :( ) because I want the quicker boot and load times.

For most of my other games and programs I'm using an older 500GB WD Blue since I don't have the money to get another SSD just for games. Lastly all my music, videos, backups, etc. are on a WD 1TB Green for mass storage.

I would really like a little expansion of my storage, like a NAS, as my 1TB drive is reporting pending sectors :( and I'm also slowly running out of space... so a couple of 4TB Reds would come in incredibly handy! :D

I have a 120GB SSD for my OS for speed, i install all my programs on it aswell as copy some games over to it sometimes so that they might load faster. My 600GB drive is for installed games and downloads, once downloads (mainly movies) are done they are copied to my 3TB drive on which i store all my movies, music, photos, series and iso files. And the last one is a 160GB drive i use for backups, mainly copying my windows user folder into it and possibly some other stuff so when i have to reinstall windows i don't need to use external devices or whatever to get my desktop setup back.

i run a 256ssd for main storage, but i have a 1tb external 2.5 hard drive because I ran out of space and I have an ITX configuration that couldn't fit another internal SSD.  It turned out well because I put my steam library, music, and videos on it so I can bring it places as well.

1. My storage:

Using 32GB of SSD as OS drive, reason- was not able to afford bigger SSD then and SSD boosts the speed of OS booting so really needed one

       512GB and 1TB as internal storage, reason - Need storage for data, initially took 512GB hard disk from old drive and was using it. when my        data grew i purchased an additional 1TB hard disk;

2x2TB external storage, reason - when my data size grew i had to buy more drives, by then i had 2 additional laptops and a TV which can            stream movies from wifi.. so got 2x2tb hard disk and connected it to my wifi router..

160GB ipod classic, reason for portability i use old 160gb ipod classic not using it anymore as music player and it is easy to carry

Uses of storage are mainly movies, music and games. As well as monthly backups of other pcs in house. Why I would love to win this awesome prize. 2 x 500 GB WD Black 32 mb buff  in Raid 0  for extra speed (no SSDs on the market at that time)

Had a couple of WD HDDs in my life and none of them died on me, so that's why i went for the RAID 0

(the 5 year warranty on the WD Blacks helped me to make this decision)

I have this config for more than 5 years now and i'm happy with it.

1 x 250 GB WD Caviar Black for torrents and backup for the most important stuff from the Raid config.
