WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I am running a WD 1TB Blue drive. The system it is now is the first system I built. After doing my research I came to the conclusion that WD was a better drive to go with. Since they had a reliable track record of providing  hard drives. At the time I bought it, the drives was cheap so that is another reason why I am running it. I didn't but an SSD due to a budget and the high cost of SSDs at the time of the build (3 years ago). I am also running a Seagate 500gb USB 3.0 external for all of my backup needs. I bought this drive mainly because it was a Black Friday deal and the fact that I needed a drive that I could carry all of my Steam games and School work with me. I also have a WD My Book Desktop 500GB external drive. I bought this drive to have backup of all of our family documents. Our family shares this drive. I like to have many copies of my documents so that I know I am safe.

I have a 280gb hard drive because I don't use much space in my computer, and it gives me as much speed as i need.

What I have is 2 IDE hard Drives one 140gb and the other 20gb, the reason for this is because I do not have the money to come close to purchasing an SSD or any SATA Hard Drive.

I'm running a 750 GB WD Black for OS and mass storage and a 40 GB old sata drive for trying out linux distros and new Windows operating systems. I have this configuration because the WD Black was cheap.

I currently have a 120Gb Corsair Neutron GTX in my laptop and that's it..swapped out my 750Gb HDD that was inside for better performance. As for storage, I'm using a 500Gb WD MyPassport, though it's pretty full by now. Guess I'll hang on until my build in a few months :)

Right now I am running a 256GB Corsair Force 3 as boot drive. I once ran a RAID setup sporting 3x1TB Samsung F1 drives, but now two of them are dead and the last one is now running all alone, which is where I dump large files and occasional games and such.

On my signature PC, i am running VMware ESXi on a 500GB partition on the 2TB RED drive as well as 1.5GB SQL database. So, my WD RED 2TB drive is basically full right now. My WD CaviarBlack is hosting all my personal files right now.

In the upcoming future, a NAS is in the plan for a home cloud solution.

Running a 512gb samsung 840 pro for boot and storage- it's R/W is a little ridiculous and big enough for storage. Also running an external 1tb g-drive for backups and more storage because I've never had a problem with them and they look really nice on a desk.

I'm currently using a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB drive, because I want higher read/write/cache speeds; cheaper storage solutions, due to my lack of spending money; and more reliable storage.

If I had the money, I would be using a raid 0+1 array of 4 drives, where the raid 0 array of two drives is also on the other two drives.

I'm using a OCZ Vertex 3 120GB as a boot drive and a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB for storage.

I got this setup running for 2 years now, I'm happy with it, but the storage can use an upgrade.

The amount of data has grown exponentially since I started using Autodesk Revit.

SSDs where pretty expensive 2 years ago, but I wanted the fast boot times.

I went with the Vertex 3 because it was one of the fastest back then and it's still running great.

I cheaped out on the storage, because I was on a budget and I wanted to spend my money on my graphics card (HD6970) and SSD.

This was right before the Taiwan floods, when storage was cheap, so it never came to a storage upgrade..

1. My desktop runs and SSD that dual boots into either Windows 8 or Debian Linux. I use the SSD for the speed and try to keep the space used at a minimum. I then have two 3 tb drives. One for media storage (movies, music, etc) and the other for programs which keeps things organized and separate and make it easy for Plex. My family also owns an external enclosure with about 5 tb that we use as a shared sandbox for files and a NAS.

Becouse im poor(ish) :(  and can't save up 1 dollar I only have a basic 500GB Blue drive, but IF I had the money I would have a 480GB corsair SSD (x4 in RAID 0) as my boot and 8 480GB Corsair SSDs in a RAID 6 on a LSI RAID card for games, programs, and some of my projects and again in RAID 6 (on a Lsi RAID card) I would have 8 WD Red 4TB (becouse they are so freakin' awesome!) and you may have noticed im a storage freek and I will soom be getting a WD Passpoet 1TB for archiving all photos for back up and a 3TB WD My Book live NAS for media storge and back up of my laptop and PC. I would always chose WD becouse the first hard drive I ever held was a old WD Green 320GB disk out of a PVR and they are in my view the best of the best.

As for as I can recall I have never deleted a file that is of any sigificance and I have always, always, aways back up my data iin any way posible, I have free supscriptions to multiple cloud serveics ware I have back ups of all my "important" files like that edited photo of a tree and the PDF manual for a router that I never used or something like that. :D

Currently I have a WD 250GB HDD which has been there since I had bought this PC pre-assembled when I was younger. I also have another Hitachi 1TB HDD, which I had bought when I upgraded my PC up to a gaming one recently, due to a lack of storage space and it was also the only one on sale at that storage capacity. On it I have Steam installed, save my music, files etc...

I have a Mac Pro with a Raptor 600GB for the boot drive because at the time SSDs were too expensive and not reliable (had an ocz 120gb, but sold it), a 640GB that came with the Mac. My HTPC has a 240GB Kingston SSD as the boot drive, a 3TB media drive, and a 3TB external media Drive. Finally I have a macbook pro retina with 256GB SSD. I'd love to get the drives so I can get a Drobo to use as my NAS and centralize all my data and give it Redundancy.

1. Using an Intel 335 240Gb SSD as boot drive in a DELL XPS 17 with the stock 750Gb drive as a 2nd drive for storage. Planning on getting a Synology with either WD Reds or Seagate NAS drives.

1. My household storage solutions are many. A HTPC with 2 750gb drives that were probably intended for a raid, but I needed the space and ditched the raid. My wifes computer with a 70gb seagate drive because it's what I had laying around and a 2tb wd green because she didn't like having no space. I have 2 external network drives, a 1tb and a 3tb, someone gave them to me as an interest payment for their lack of paying the rent. I suspected they were stolen, but had no proof. Finally my personal rig has a 120gb A-Data SSD that I only have games with long load times installed on, i picked it up because it was the first time i went to an ncix store and felt i should get something, 2tb and 3tb storage drives that i got because, boxing day, is hard drive day, and a 300gb drive for OS because, it's all i had when i started this computer.

I use a single Western Digital 1 TB Black because I can't afford an SSD or another drive to do RAID.

Space is pretty awesome.
