I just realized this video was never released to youtube until now... I remember watching it a few weeks ago on Vessel then all of a sudden this post is made about it. I was a little confused.

I hope this bit isn't taken as a rant. LTT's content is (mostly) free to me and I thusly try to keep this kinds of comments to myself. However, I take issue with the format of this video. It has to do with the timing of ADs relative to video length. 

 

On this video there's an 8 second ad between 0:26-0:34, just before content starts. No biggie, pretty standard LTT ads and where the industry is headed on Youtube (not everyone watches a video to the end). Also, 8 seconds is so short its hardly "felt". 

 

There's a second ad towards the end at 2:52-3:14 for 22 seconds. Bringing the total amount of sponsored time to 30 seconds. Makes sense, typical Ad contract for a 30 second timeslot. 

 

Then there's 30 seconds of self-promotion between 3:16-3:46. (Bare with me, the point shall emerge soon). 

 

Lastly, the content begins at 0:35 and ends at 2:12 for a total of 97 seconds. I know, I know, the B-roll and narration goes on to 2:52. However, on videos dealing with lists (top 10, top 5, etc). To the viewer, your content "ends" at the reveal. This is largely why the best is saved for last. It goes 10,9,8, not 1,2,3. So, 97 seconds of effective content. So out of 97 seconds we got 60 seconds of Ad time. That sounds a bit stiff, no? 

 

For comparison's sake. The video LTT pushed out "EVGA's first gaming laptop! 17" 4K IPS Display - CES 2016" had a combined total of about 35 seconds in ads for 193 seconds of content. Furthermore its not a list-type video, so the focus is on covering a single item really well vs. multiple rapid fire. The viewer has a different expectation on this type of video. If anything, -this- video should have received the 60 seconds of ADs and Brandon's video should have received the flat 30 seconds. 

 

If this is just something you gotta do to boost revenue, I get it. I am not any less happy as a customer. My contributions only go so far in supporting your company. I mostly just want to bring this to your attention. Viewers notice this kinda thing :)
