If there would be any books they'd get outdated instantly... but there were (good) books back when the internet wasn't as popular (386 days) :P

Asrock 890GX Extreme 3 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 @3.50GHz - Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME Rev.2 - 4GB Kingston HyperX - AMD Radeon HD7850 - Kingston V300 240GB - Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - Chieftec APS-750 - Cooler Master HAF912 PLUS

I assume you mean how components work, not shopping for components, because any book about different components on the market would be outdated quickly.

Look for any book labeled computer engineering for a book about how hardware works, look for a book labeled computer science for some hardware stuff and some coding stuff

Intel 3570K - MSI GTX 660Ti 3GB OC Edition - 16GB Corsair LP RAM - ASRock Extreme4 Motherboard - Corsair HX850 - Adata Premier Pro SP900 120GB SSD with Windows 7 - Seagate Barracuda 1TD HDD - Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD - Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler - CM Storm Enforcer Case - Macbook Pro Early 2011 Laptop

Depends on what you mean. I am not aware of any book that just covers computer hardware in general (the Internet like for example reading Wikipedia articles is your best bet for that, and read related articles) but there are a ton of books for specific things. For example I got the "Certified Wireless Network Administrator Official Study Guide" which is 700+ pages about wireless networks, including how NICs and wireless antennas work.

Here are some articles to get you started:

Central Processing Unit

Graphics Processing Unit

Random-Access memory

Motherboard

Hard Disk Drive

Solid State Drive

Power Supply Unit (more about SMPs in general, not just the ones you got in your computer so you might want to skip this one)

(Wireless) Network Interface Card

Edit: Should have read the OP more carefully. Just pick a normal book dude, trust me it's for the best. Especially since you will probably have to analyze the book afterwards. I recommend something like The Hobbit. It should be about 200-250 words, easy to find and really good (read it now and then go and see the second movie which will be released this December).

You might want to look into Scott Muellers Upgrading and Repairing PCs by Que Publishing.
