390x2 or 980 ti G1 gaming

Fungal

Hey, so I just saw this amazing deal on an amd 390x2 for $600 (original price 800) plus $100 rebate card and also a $100 razer mouse. The problem is there's very mixed reviews about this and i'm wondering your guys' opinions here if the cons outweigh the performance on this card. My next option is a 980 ti G1.

100% the 980 Ti G1 Gaming. It's one of the best out of the box overclockers of the reasonably priced 980 Ti partner cards.

one 980 ti is better because u dont have to deal with two gpu derpness, and it will be cooler and you can sli in the future if u want and nvidia is better

I'd go for the 980ti.

That 390x is a very power hungry card, it's massive. and based on the reviews, it's kinda loud and hot.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Yeah only got 600 watt so I'd have to upgrade (corsairs got a sale if i needed to anyways) if I got the Amd but with the G1 I think it would be fine

1 single more powerful gpu is always better the 2 smaller cards.

If you're talking about two R9 270's vs R9 290's for example (with the 270 being about half of the performance of a R9 290) then the single more powerful card is better because the two 270's would result in the same performance but with more heat, noise and power consumption at the same price. That being said a R9 390X 8GB isn't exactly half of the performance of a 980 Ti and it would likely result in better performance for the most part but you'd of course still have all of the aforementioned downsides of running two cards.

At the end of the day i'd choose the single 980 Ti as well. I've just been seeing people say that a single card is "better" a lot lately and i think it's kind of misleading unless you're providing more information

There we go i feel better now :)

I didn't even know this card existed, the 390x2. That's definitely a killer deal, seeing as you cannot get two 390's for 500 and if you need a new mouse, or are good at selling things, there is value there too.

Price/performance will probably favor the 390x2, and raw performance in general.

pricing discussion on this deal.

I'd probably go with the 390x2 if I already had the PSU to support it, the deal is insane.

If you aren't thinking of liquid cooling the 390x2 - I can only imagine the heat that card will dissipate...get the 980Ti.

imo no point getting a card where you'll have to compromise overclockability or tolerate fan noise levels.. just an enthusiast POV.

GTX 980ti, though you could get a version without a loud (idle and load) cooler.

Well, the 980 Ti is the overall best single card there is right now (trading blows with its more expensive version, the Titan X).

So, its either two weaker cards (strong on their own, stronger with two of them together, but may stutter as much as Brock Lesnar suplexing anyone he sees in the ring) or one card thats essentially Brock Lesnar that will suplex games at 16:9 1080p and 1440p and even ultrawide/21:9 1440p (may even do the same at 4K with little to no no AA, but I haven't seen or noticed 4K benchmarks with little to no AA) instead of suplexes that causes stutters.

You're right. But a 290 is way more powerful than 2 270s. More in the ballpark of 2 280s if the game is optimized well. Remember a 390 uses the same chip.

I would get the 980ti. Putting 2 250w TDP chips in 1 ginormous card is a really bad idea. Not to mention that crossfire is always enabled so you can actually get worse performance than a single 390 in some games.
