my cpu is running hot when I game please help.

so I got a pretty high end rig for Christmas/birthday that consists of a gtx 980ti and i7 6700k. and I've tweaked settings for the 980ti so it doesn't get past 60°c but even in my bios I've messed with settings to change my cpu fan speed but it has not shown a huge improvement as I still run a little past 60°c on my cpu and I know that it's way past optimal performing temperature. but anything could be happening. and I don't want to damage my 400$ cpu. also I'm using the hyper 212 evo to cool my pc

a little past 60 degrees isnt hot lol thats pretty good gaming temperatures

my cpu is *always* around 60°c, because thats where my fan profile is pretty much a vertical line :P

 

you shouldnt really be worried until you get up to the 70s...

60c is pretty darn low. You're fine up to 90c at load.

Your 6700K isn't breaking a sweat at that temperature.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

There two things when thinking CPU temps. First is that idle starts from 35C on air cooling. Normal load temp with stock coolers are 65-70C. Second is that 212 Evo isn't really that good cooler. Its better than stock but not like any 140mm coolers or dual towers. That is pretty normal load temp for Evo.
